Colonial Williamsburg Website Wins AwardsBy WY Daily Staff Wednesday, October 13, 2010 Colonial Williamsburg’s website has recently received awards from two media marketing groups. Interactive Media Awards named Kids Zone “Best in Class,” the highest honor the group grants. The award represents the very best in planning, execution and overall professionalism. “Kids Zone” introduces young children to history and teaches them about life in colonial America by providing colorful characters, interactive games and activities designed to engage them in history.
The Web Marketing Association recognized Colonial Williamsburg’s comprehensive website with an Outstanding Website award. The site boasts multiple navigation choices; depth and diversity through the use of photographs, rotating promotional images for featured sections and a hotel booking option; and direct access to a user’s area of interest through the site’s event calendar and drop-down menus. Also receiving an Outstanding Website award from the Web Marketing Association was “Tour the Town,” an interactive map of Colonial Williamsburg’s Historic Area that allows the user to virtually visit the town by selecting a specific area of interest, such as trades, hotels, museums, shopping, dining or activities of interest to children. “Kids Zone" received a Standard of Excellence award. The Web Marketing Association is made up of Internet marketing, advertising, public relations and design professionals who share an interest in improving the quality of Web site development and marketing on the Internet. More than 2,000 sites from 45 countries were judged in 96 industry categories for this year’s competition. Entries were judged on design, copy writing, innovation, content, interactivity, navigation and use of technology.
