VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: Oct. 17-23By WYDaily Staff Sunday, October 17, 2010 Fall is the construction season on Virginia highways. In an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. YORK COUNTY/JAMES CITY COUNTY Route 199 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Route 641 Penniman Road to the end of the bridge wall for pavement marker inspection, Sunday, October 17, though Friday, October 22, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. NEWPORT NEWS/HAMPTON I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures between Warwick Boulevard/35th Street (Exit 5) and 25th St. & 26th Street (Exit 6) for pavement marker inspection Thursday, October 21, through Friday, October 22, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect lane closures at Route 105/Fort Eustis (Exit 250) for bridge deck repairs, Sunday, October 17, through Thursday, October 21, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect multiple mobile lane closures between the I-64 Interchange (Exit 1) and Warwick Boulevard/35th Street (Exit 5) for pavement marking, Sunday, October 17, through Thursday, October 21, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures on the Route 105 overpass for under bridge inspection, Monday, October 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. JAMES RIVER BRIDGE Route 17 South - Motorists should expect mobile lane closures for fiber optic installation, Monday, October 18, through Friday, October 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. Route 17 North – Motorists should expect single, alternating lane closures for beam end repairs, Sunday, October 17, through Thursday, October 21, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and Monday, October 18, through Friday, October 22, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Route 17 South – Motorists should expect single, alternating lane closures for beam end repairs, Sunday, October 17, through Thursday, October 21, from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. Route 17 South – Motorists should expect single right lane closures for barrier gate drive wheel operations, Tuesday, October 19, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday through Thursday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011. Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. I-64 West – Motorists should expect a single lane closure through the HRBT for tunnel tile replacement and repairs, Sunday, October 17, and Monday, October 18, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-64 West – Motorists should expect a single lane closure through the HRBT for tunnel drain cleaning, Sunday, October 17, through Thursday, October 21, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. DOWNTOWN TUNNEL I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for tunnel sweeping, Tuesday, October 19, and Friday, October 22, from midnight to 4 a.m. I-264 East – Motorists should expect a single lane closure through the Downtown Tunnel for tunnel maintenance, Sunday, October 17, and Tuesday, October 19, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-264 West – Motorists should expect a single lane closure through the Downtown Tunnel for tunnel maintenance, Monday, October 18, and Wednesday, October 20, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. NORFOLK I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the Tidewater Drive (Exit 10) on and off ramps for pavement marking, Monday, October 18, through Thursday, October 21, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-64 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures at 4th View Street (Exit 273) for pavement repairs, Wednesday, October 20, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-64 East – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures over Route 13 and Route 166 at the Northampton Boulevard Interchange for bridge deck joint replacement, Tuesday, October 19, through Wednesday, October 20, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from the I-264 Interchange (Exit 284) to 15th View (Exit 272) for roadway sweeping, Sunday, October 17, through Thursday, October 21, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-264 East – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at the I-64 interchange overpass at the Newtown Road on-ramp for overhead sign maintenance, Wednesday, October 20, and Thursday, October 21, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from City Hall Avenue to Military Highway for pavement repairs, Sunday, October 17, through Thursday, October 21, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Hampton Boulevard Grading Project Motorists should expect a traffic shift on Hampton Boulevard onto a newly created detour road. The six-lane detour roadway was constructed as part of the Hampton Boulevard Grade Separation Project. The detour road will provide access to both NIT and NAS facilities, while maintaining the same vehicle capacity as the current Hampton Boulevard. PORTSMOUTH I-264 East – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Frederick Boulevard for overhead sign repairs, Thursday, October 21, and Friday, October 22, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Route 164 East – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Cedar Road to West Norfolk Road for pavement repairs, Sunday, October 17, and Monday, October 18, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. CHESAPEAKE I-64 High Rise Bridge East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the High Rise Bridge for lighting repairs, Tuesday, October 19, and Wednesday, October 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dominion Boulevard – Motorists should expect single lane closures on Dominion Boulevard at Great Bridge Boulevard for overhead sign repairs, Monday, October 18, and Tuesday, October 19, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work. Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue Sunday through Thursday until the end of August 2011. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from I-264 Interchange (Exit 299) to Battlefield Boulevard (Exit 290) for guardrail repair, drainage improvements and paving operations, Sunday, October 17, through Friday, October 22, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists should be alert for detours associated with on- and off-ramp closures. Motorists should also expect shoulder closures. Mt. Pleasant Road South – Motorists should expect a westbound road closures at the intersection of Mt. Pleasant Road and Fentress Airfield Road for utility relocation operations, Monday, October 18, through Thursday, October 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists should be alert for flagging operations. GILMERTON BRIDGE Route 13 - Motorists may experience traffic delays due to daytime flagging operations in the project work zone, stopping traffic in both directions for up to 10 minutes. Motorists are asked to use extreme caution as work crews repair barrier walls on the traffic side of the wall. Motorists are encouraged to use the I-64 High Rise Bridge as an alternative route to avoid delays. For more information, please visit the project website. VIRGINIA BEACH I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect ramp closures at Independence Boulevard (Exit 17), Rosemont Road (Exit 18), Lynnhaven Parkway (Exit 19) Birdneck Road (Exit 22), First Colonial Road (Exit 21) for pavement markings, Monday, October 18, through Thursday, October 21, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from Newtown Road (Exit 15) to Rosemont Road (Exit 18) for roadway sweeping, Monday, October 18, through Friday, October 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-264 West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures between Rosemont Road and Independence Boulevard for overhead sign repairs, Tuesday, October 19, and Wednesday, October 20, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Witchduck Road North/South –Motorists should expect single median lane closures from Bonney Road to the I-264 Interchange on Witchduck Road and at Anvers Road and Witchduck Road for asphalt demolition, Monday, October 18, through Friday, October 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY Route 189 East/West – Motorists should expect a right lane closures on the Route 189 Blackwater Bridge for bridge repairs, beginning Monday, October 18, at 7 a.m., through Friday, October 22, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Route 58 East – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from Route 643 East/West to the Chesapeake city line, Monday, October 18, through Friday, October 22, from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. |
