VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: Nov. 7-13

vdotlogoIn an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events. Other closures may occur that do not appear on this report.

YORK COUNTY
I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect lane closures between Exit 238 and Exit 247 for bridge deck repair and joint reconstruction, Sunday, November 7, through Thursday, November 11, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

JAMES RIVER BRIDGE

Route 17 North/South - Motorists should expect single lane closures on the James River Bridge for generator maintenance and gate and traffic signal repairs, Tuesday, November 9, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The left lane will be closed southbound and the right lane will be closed northbound.

Route 17 South – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures on the James River Bridge for bridge repair, Sunday, November 7, through Thursday, November 11, from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 17 North – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures on the James River Bridge for equipment staging and beam end repairs. The northbound right lane will be closed, Sunday, November 7, through Thursday, November 11, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The northbound left lane will be closed Monday, November 8, through Friday, November 12, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

NEWPORT NEWS/ HAMPTON

I-664 North/South - Motorists should expect lane closures at Terminal Avenue and the Boat Harbor Bridge just north of the Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel for bridge safety inspections, Monday, November 8, through Friday, November 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect multiple mobile lane closures between the I-64 Interchange (Exit 1) and Warwick Boulevard/35th Street (Exit 5) for pavement marking, Sunday, November 7, and Monday, November 8, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL
I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday through Thursday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011.

Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations.

DOWNTOWN TUNNEL

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for tunnel sweeping, Tuesday, November 9, and Friday, November 12, from midnight to 4 a.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect alternating mobile eastbound right lane closures for lighting maintenance and fire extinguisher inspection, Wednesday, November 10, 8 p.m. to midnight.

MIDTOWN TUNNEL
Route 58 West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures and a westbound lane closures for lighting maintenance and fire extinguisher inspection, Sunday, November 7, and Monday, November 8, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 58 East – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures and a westbound lane closure for lighting maintenance and fire extinguisher inspection, Tuesday, November 9, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

NORFOLK

I-64 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures at Tidewater Drive for guardrail repairs, Wednesday, November 10, from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.

I-64 East - Motorists should expect single lane closures at Granby Street for guardrail repairs, Wednesday, November 10, from 11 p.m. to midnight.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect a single lane closure at the I-64 Interchange for overhead sign maintenance, Thursday, November 11, and Friday, November 12, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the Westside of the Berkley Bridge to Newtown Road (Exit 15) for pavement marking, Monday, November 8, through Friday, November 12, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64 East/West - Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the I-264 Interchange to 15th View for roadway sweeping, Sunday, November 7, through Thursday, November 11, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64 East – Motorists should expect a single lane closure at Bay Avenue for guardrail repairs, Wednesday, November 10, from 10 to 11 p.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures, including the off-ramp on Waterside Drive (Exit 9) for pavement repairs, Monday, November 8, from 9 to 11 p.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Newtown Road (Exit 15) for soil test borings, Sunday, November 7, through Thursday, November 11, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Hampton Boulevard Grading Project
Motorists should expect a traffic shift on Hampton Boulevard onto a newly created detour road. The six-lane detour roadway was constructed as part of the Hampton Boulevard Grade Separation Project. The detour road will provide access to both NIT and NAS facilities, while maintaining the same vehicle capacity as the current Hampton Boulevard.

PORTSMOUTH

I-264 East/West - Motorists should expect multiple mobile closures at Portsmouth Boulevard (Exit 4) underside overpass bridge safety inspection, Tuesday, November 9, from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

Route 164 East - Motorists should expect multiple mobile closures at APM Boulevard for underside overpass bridge safety inspection, Tuesday, November 9, from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

CHESAPEAKE

I-64 East/West High Rise Bridge – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the High Rise Bridge for bridge sweeping and drain cleaning operations, Sunday, November 7, through Thursday, November 11, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work.  Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue Sunday through Thursday until the end of August 2011.

I-64 West – Motorists should expect a single lane closure between Military Highway (Route 13) and George Washington Highway (Route 17) for guardrail repairs, Sunday, November 7, from 10 p.m. to midnight.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the I-464 Interchange (Exit 299) to Greenbrier Parkway (Exit 289) for roadway sweeping, Monday, November 8, through Friday, November 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-464 North – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the I-64 Interchange (Exit 1) for ditch repairs, Tuesday, November 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-664 South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the Bowers Hill Interchange for bridge expansion joint repairs, Monday, November 8, and Tuesday, November 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-664 North – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the Bowers Hill Interchange for guardrail repairs, Sunday, November 7, from 9 to 10 p.m.

Dominion Boulevard North – Motorists should expect a single lane closure on Dominion Boulevard at Great Bridge Boulevard for overhead sign repair, Wednesday, November 10, and Thursday, November 11, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.  Motorists should be alert for a detour to Bainbridge Boulevard due to the maintenance activities.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from I-264 Interchange (Exit 299) to Battlefield Boulevard (Exit 290) for guardrail repair, drainage improvements and paving operations, Sunday, November 7, through Friday, November 12, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists should be alert for detours associated with on- and off-ramp closures. Motorists should also expect shoulder closures.

GILMERTON BRIDGE
Route 13 East/West – Motorists may experience traffic delays due to flagging operations in the project work zone, stopping traffic in both directions for up to 10 minutes.

Motorists are asked to use extreme caution as work crews repair barrier walls on the traffic side of the wall.

Motorists are encouraged to use the I-64 High Rise Bridge as an alternative route to avoid delays. For more information, please visit the project website.

NORFOLK/VIRGINIA BEACH
I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Indian River Road (Exit 286) to 15th View (Exit 272) for pavement repairs, Sunday, November 7, through Thursday, November 11, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

VIRGINIA BEACH
I-264 East/West - Motorists should expect ramp closures at Lynnhaven Parkway (Exit 19) for pavement marking and guardrail repairs, Tuesday, November 9, and Wednesday, November 10, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East/West - Motorists should expect ramp closures at Rosemont Road (Exit 18) for pavement marking and guardrail repairs, Tuesday, November 9, and Wednesday, November 10, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East/West - Motorists should expect ramp closures at First Colonial Road (Exit 20) for pavement marking and guardrail repairs, Tuesday, November 9, and Wednesday, November 10, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect single lane closures between Birdneck Road (Exit 22) and Parks Avenue for guardrail repairs, Tuesday, November 9, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

I-264 East/West - Motorists should expect shoulder closures from Newtown Road (Exit 15) to Witchduck Road (Exit 16) for soil test borings, Monday, November 8, through Thursday, November 11, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Motorists should be alert for on- and off-ramp closures.

Witchduck Road North/South – Motorists should expect single median lane closures from Bonney Road to the I-264 Interchange on Witchduck Road and at Anvers Road and Witchduck Road for asphalt demolition, Monday, November 8, through Friday, November 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Princess Anne Road Expansion Project
Princess Anne Road East – Motorists should expect two right lane closures on Princess Anne Road, east bound, between Dam Neck Road and the Landstown Commons entrance for clearing and grading operations through the project completion, expected November 2011.

CHESAPEAKE/SUFFOLK

I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect single, alternating mobile lane closures between Bowers Hill and the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel for concrete roadway repairs, guardrail repairs and shoulder restoration, Sunday, November 7, through Thursday, November 11, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

SUFFOLK
I-664 North – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at Military Highway for overhead sign maintenance, Tuesday, November 9, and Wednesday, November 10, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

I-664 North – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Route 164 Western Freeway for overhead sign maintenance, Tuesday, November 9, and Wednesday, November 10, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY

Route 189 East/West – Motorists should be alert to a closure over the Blackwater Bridge on Route 189 for bridge maintenance from 7 a.m. on Monday, November 8, through Friday, November 12, at 5:30 p.m. Motorists should be alert for detour signs in the area.
