Walmart Bomb Threat a False Alarm

Sunday evening shoppers at the York County Walmart on Route 17 were disrupted when police were alerted to a bomb threat that targeted the store.

Around 7:30 p.m. Sunday the York County 911 call center was notified by their counterparts in Hampton that a man had called 911 there, told the dispatcher of a bomb at the Yorktown Walmart, then hung up.

Hampton police notified York County dispatchers, who sent sheriff's deputies to the store and notified store management.

Walmart management began immediately to evacuate the store.

When deputies arrived at the Walmart around 7:34 p.m. they coordinated a search of the store, which included several K-9 units from surrounding jurisdictions. No device was located.

The store reopened around 8:45 p.m.

York sheriff's spokesman Deputy Mike Russell said there was no further information to share, but that the investigation was ongoing.

Anyone with information about the threat is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
