Crime Line Tip Leads to Arrests in Larceny from Cars Cases

Thefts from unlocked cars have been an issue in York County these past months, but this weekend investigators made several arrests they say solved a few cases.

The sheriff's office received a Crime Line tip Friday, Nov. 5 about recent larcenies from vehicles. Further investigation led to three arrests and the recovery of several stolen items.

Arrested were:
Craig Adam Ward, 21, with a last known address in the 3300 block of Mattaponi Avenue in West Point; charged with two counts grand larceny.

Michael Irvin Heath, 26, with a last known address in the 17000 block of Polish Town Road in Barhamsville; charged with two counts grand larceny.

Damian James Powell, 18, with a last known address in the 200 block of Ivy Hill Road in Toano; two counts grand larceny, three counts receiving stolen property.

A York sheriff's spokesman said several additional cases involving larcenies from vehicles are expected to be solved in York and surrounding localities as a result of these arrests.

York-Poquoson Sheriff Danny Diggs said residents can help deter crime by following a simple tip: Lock their car doors.

“Thefts from unlocked cars are a significant problem in the entire region. The arrest of these individuals will put a stop to some of it," said Diggs. "However, citizens can easily reduce their chances of becoming a victim by simply locking their cars.”

Diggs has made a public service announcement about the easy fix to this problem, which is viewable below.
