Veterans Day in the Historic TriangleBy WY Daily Staff Wednesday, November 10, 2010 Thursday is Veterans Day, and various organizations in the Historic Triangle are gearing up to honor the men and women who have served in the military. Colonial Williamsburg is offering free admission to active duty military, reservists, retirees, veterans and their families from November 11 through November 14.The “Honoring Service to America” pass provides admission to Colonial Williamsburg exhibition sites, the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg and most day programs. It also includes free parking at the Visitor Center, access to the digitally restored classic film, “Williamsburg, The Story of a Patriot,” and complimentary use of Colonial Williamsburg shuttle buses. The free passes are available only at Colonial Williamsburg on-site ticket sales locations, including the Visitor Center, the Lumber House Ticket Office in the Historic Area or Merchants Square Ticket Office. Appropriate military identification is required. Family members of deployed troops can also get passes with proper identification. Colonial Williamsburg will offer special rates to military personnel and their families at any of its on-site hotels during the free ticket days. Discounts are $30 off at the Williamsburg Inn, a $20 off at the Williamsburg Lodge and a $10 off at the Williamsburg Woodlands Hotel and Suites. Also on Veterans Day Colonial Williamsburg will host a parade honoring veterans at 4:30 p.m. beginning at the Capitol. All veterans of service in America’s armed forces are invited to participate in the parade. Groups will begin forming at 4:15 p.m. Veterans unable to walk the distance can join the parade near the Magazine. There will be a ceremony after the parade at the Courthouse on Market Square. For details, visit the Colonial Williamsburg website. In York County, “Letter from War” is the continuing theme of this year’s annual Veterans Day ceremony to be held in historic Yorktown. The Historical Committee will observe the occasion with a memorial service in the Board Room in York Hall. The service will begin at noon and will include a tolling of the bell, presentation of the colors, singing of the National Anthem, Pledge of Allegiance, laying of honors and “Taps.” There will also be a special recognition of all veterans of our armed forces.
