VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: Nov. 14-20


vdotlogoThere's lots of roadwork being done this week, but it looks like VDOT has planned for most of it to occur overnight. These are scheduled lane closures; others may occur that will affect traffic. All closures are subject to change due to weather and/or unforeseen events.

JAMES CITY COUNTY
Route 199 East – Motorists should expect lane closures from the York County line to Route 321 for pavement marking operations, Tuesday, November 16, through Saturday, November 20, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 199 East/West – Motorists should expect lane closures at the Route 60 and Route 143 bridge for pavement marking operations, Tuesday, November 16, through Saturday, November 20, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 199 West – Motorists should expect lane closures at the Colonial Parkway bridge for pavement marking operations, Tuesday, November 16, through Saturday, November 20, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 199 East/West -  Motorists should expect lane closures to Route 612 for pavement marking operations, Wednesday, November 17, through Saturday, November 20, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 199 West - Motorists should expect lane closures from Route 612 to Route 199 East for pavement marking operations, Wednesday, November 17, through Saturday, November 20, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 199 West – Motorists should expect ramp closures from Route 100 East to Route 612 for pavement marking operations, Tuesday, November 16, through Saturday, November 20, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

YORK COUNTY
I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect lane closures at Rip Rap Road for bridge deck repairs and joint reconstruction, Sunday, November 14, through Thursday, November 18, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

JAMES RIVER BRIDGE
Route 17 South – Motorists should expect single mobile right lane closures on the James River Bridge for generator fueling, Monday, November 15, through Friday, November 19, from 9 to 11 a.m.

Route 17 South – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures on the James River Bridge for bridge repair, Sunday, November 14, through Thursday, November 18, from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 17 North – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures on the James River Bridge for equipment staging and beam end repairs. The northbound right lane will be closed, Sunday, November 14, through Thursday, November 18, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The northbound left lane will be closured Monday, November 15, through Friday, November 19, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

NEWPORT NEWS/HAMPTON

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect lane closures at the Jefferson Avenue (Route 143) overpass for bridge safety inspections, Monday, November 15, through Friday, November 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL
I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday through Thursday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011.

Motorists are encouraged to use the I-664 Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations.

DOWNTOWN TUNNEL

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for tunnel sweeping, Tuesday, November 16, and Friday, November 19, from midnight to 4 a.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for bridge maintenance, Tuesday, November 16, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

NORFOLK
I-564 West Runway Tunnel – Motorists should expect a single lane closure through the I-564 Runway Tunnel for generator installation and pumping system repairs, Monday, November 15, through Friday, November 19, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

I-64 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures at Bay Avenue for guardrail repairs, Wednesday, November 17, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

I-64 East/West - Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the I-264 Interchange to 15th View for roadway sweeping, Sunday, November 14, through Thursday, November 18, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Newtown Road (Exit 15) for soil test borings, Sunday, November 14, through Thursday, November 19, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Motorists should also be alert for ramp closures.

I-264 East/West - Motorists should expect shoulder closures at Newtown Road (Exit 15) and Witchduck Road (Exit 16) for soil test borings, Monday, November 15, through Thursday, November 18, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect lane closures at Military Highway (Exit 13) for bridge safety inspections, Monday, November 15, through Friday, November 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

I-464 North – Motorists should expect lane closures at Barnes Road overpass and Poindexter Street (Exit 4) for overhead sign maintenance, Wednesday, November 17, and Thursday, November 18, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

I-464 South – Motorists should expect lane closures at the Barnes Street overpass for overhead sign repairs, Thursday, November 18, and Friday, November 19, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect lane closures from the Broad Creek Bridge to Military Highway for roadway lighting repairs, Monday, November 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 West - Motorists should expect lane closures from the I-64/I-264 Interchange to the Broad Creek Bridge to Military Highway for roadway lighting repairs, Thursday, November 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Hampton Boulevard Grading Project
Motorists should expect a traffic shift on Hampton Boulevard onto a newly created detour road. The six-lane detour roadway was constructed as part of the Hampton Boulevard Grade Separation Project. The detour road will provide access to both NIT and NAS facilities, while maintaining the same vehicle capacity as the current Hampton Boulevard.

PORTSMOUTH

Route 164 East/West – Motorists should expect lane closures from Town Pointe Road to West Norfolk Road for pavement repairs, Monday, November 15, and Tuesday, November 16, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

I-264 East - Motorists should expect lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange (Exit 1) to Victory Boulevard (Exit 3) for overhead sign maintenance, Tuesday, November 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Des Moines Avenue (Exit 06) for overhead sign repairs, Tuesday, November 16, and Wednesday, November 17, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Route 164 East/West - Motorists should expect multiple mobile closures from the I-664 Interchange to Cedar Lane for bridge repairs, Tuesday, November 16, and Wednesday, November 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

CHESAPEAKE
I-64 East/West High Rise Bridge –  Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from the High Rise Bridge to Battlefield Boulevard for pavement marking operations, Sunday, November 14, through Friday, November 19, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Motorists should also be alert for ramp closures.

I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work.  Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue Sunday through Thursday until the end of August 2011.

I-464 North – Motorists should expect lane closures at State Street for guardrail repairs, Wednesday, November 17, from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the I-464 Interchange (Exit 299) to Greenbrier Parkway (Exit 289) for roadway sweeping, Monday, November 15, through Friday, November 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-464 North – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the I-64 Interchange (Exit 1) for slope and ditch repairs, Tuesday, November 16, and Wednesday, November 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Motorists should also be alert for flagging operations on Fentress Airfield Road for roadway repairs, Tuesday, November 16, through November 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

GILMERTON BRIDGE

Route 13 East/West – The Gilmerton Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic on Friday, November 19, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for bridge construction equipment removal.

Daytime closures include flagging operations in the project work zone, stopping traffic in both directions for up to 10 minutes.

Motorists are asked to use extreme caution as work crews repair barrier walls on the traffic side of the wall.

Motorists are encouraged to use the I-64 High Rise Bridge as an alternative route to avoid delays.  For more information, please visit the project website.

VIRGINIA BEACH
I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect ramp closures from Newtown Road (Exit 15) to Birdneck Road (Exit 22) for roadway sweeping at entrance and exit ramps, Monday, November 15, through Friday, November 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect reduced merge lanes between Witchduck Road (Exit 16) and Newtown Road (Exit 15) for barrier wall inspection, Friday, November 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

I-264 West - Motorists should expect lane and shoulder closures at Witchduck Road (Exit 16), for overhead sign maintenance, Tuesday, November 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Witchduck Road North/South –Motorists should expect single median lane closures from Bonney Road to the I-264 Interchange on Witchduck Road and at Anvers Road and Witchduck Road for asphalt demolition, Monday, November 15, through Friday, November 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

CHESAPEAKE/SUFFOLK

I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect single, alternating mobile lane closures between Bowers Hill and the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel for concrete roadway repairs, guardrail repairs and shoulder restoration, Sunday, November 14, through Thursday, November 18, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY

Route 460 – Motorists should expect lane closures at the Pagan River Bridge for pavement marking operations, Wednesday, November 17, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 460 - Motorists should expect lane closures from the Suffolk city line to Route 607 for pavement marking operations, Tuesday, November 16, through Saturday, November 20, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 460 - Motorists should expect lane closures from Route 607 to Shirley T. Holland Commerce Park for pavement marking operations, Wednesday, November 17, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 460 - Motorists should expect lane closures from Route 258 to the Southampton County line for pavement marking operations, Tuesday, November 16, through Saturday, November 20, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 10 East/West – Motorists should expect lane closures at the Cypress Creek bridge pavement marking operations, Tuesday, November 16, through Saturday, November 20, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

SUSSEX COUNTY
I-95 North/South – Motorists should expect lane closures at the Route 301 overpass for bridge safety inspections, Monday, November 15, through Friday, November 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 460 – Motorists should expect lane closures from the Southampton County line to Route 31 and Route 628, for pavement marking operations, Wednesday, November 17, through Friday, November 19, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 460 – Motorists should expect lane closures from Route 40 to Route 1002, for pavement marking operations, Tuesday, November 16, through Saturday, November 20, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 460 – Motorists should expect lane closures from Route 40 to the Prince George County line, for pavement marking operations, Wednesday, November 17, through Friday, November 19, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

EMPORIA

Route 58 East/West – Motorists should expect lane closures at the I-95 Route 58 Overpass for bridge safety inspections, Monday, November 15, through Friday, November 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
