James City Police Seek Bank RobberBy WYDaily Staff Monday, November 22, 2010
A surveillance camera captured this photo of the bank robbery suspect.
A suspect entered the bank at 7534 Richmond Road around 11:53 a.m., carrying a small bag of trash that witnesses earlier had seen him picking up off Croaker Road. The man, clad in a black hooded jacket and pants, black shoes with white on the sides of the sole, and grey gloves, also wore a black, gray and white bandana over his face. He dropped the bag of trash on the lobby floor, then approached a teller and pointed a semiautomatic handgun, demanding money. The teller complied, and the suspect stuffed the cash into a bright yellow zippered bag before taking off on foot towards Croaker Road. Although a report in the Virginia Gazette indicated a suspect was discovered and apprehended in a bathroom at the Croaker Library, James City Police Maj. Stephen Rubino said that was not the case. Rubino said an officer went to the library immediately after the bank robbery to ask librarians and clerks if they had seen someone matching the description of the suspect. They told him they hadn't, so the officer started to take a look around the library. As he was doing that, the clerks saw a man enter who appeared to resemble the suspect's description. That man headed for the restroom, which is where officers caught up with him. Rubino said the man was questioned and detained, but released without charges. Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP. |
