York Sheriff Seeks Witnesses in Daytime Armed Robbery

YC-new-badge-375A York County woman was robbed at gunpoint Monday afternoon as she was in front of her home at the mailbox.

York County sheriff's investigators are working on a lead developed from another jurisdiction, but are asking that anyone who thinks they saw the suspect to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.

The armed robbery happened in the 1300 block of Dare Road - about three miles east of Route 17, near where the road dead-ends in a residential waterfront neighborhood - around 2:50 p.m. The resident saw a black car pull up, and a dark-skinned Hispanic man who got out of the car and approached the woman, asking for directions to Chesapeake.

As the woman gave the man driections, he pulled out a small black handgun and demanded her purse. When the woman refused, the man demanded any cash in her purse and she complied.

After taking the money the suspect got back into the car and drove off.

York Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Dennis Ivey, Jr., said another jurisdiction had arrested individuals who are suspects in this case.

Amen to that sir/Quoting Concerned:
Wake up YTown.... crime is becoming more violent in Yorktown just like in Newport News and Hampton. Demand your BOS allocate money for more Deputies and Vehicles for patrol. Also arm yourselves legally and be vigilant. Report people or vehicles that seem out of place in your neighborhood. Don’t fear being labeled a racist or nosey. You know who belongs where you live and who doesn’t. Besides, if they are not breaking the law they have nothing to fear when the police come out and enquire as to why they are in YOUR neighborhood. EX: Two males who just happen to be black were walking through a York County neighborhood. They had backpacks with them and were eyeing houses. Many people saw them but no one questioned them for fear of being labeled a racist or a bad neighbor, yet no one had seen them in the neighborhood before. The police were only alerted to them after they had kicked in several doors and robbed homes. All it would have took to alleviate this was one person calling the police and asking them to simply come out and ascertain why they were hanging out in a neighborhood they didn’t live in or have friends in. It’s not profiling or harassing, it’s being smart. Sometimes common sense goes a long way. This is the real world and there are people out there who seek to hurt and steal from you. Not everyone is out for good. Wake up YTown….
