VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: Dec. 5-11

vdotlogoIn an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events. Other closures may occur that don't appear on this report.

JAMES RIVER BRIDGE
Route 17 South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures on the James River Bridge for bridge repair, Sunday, December 5, through Thursday, December 9, from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. and Monday, December 6, through Friday, December 10, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 17 North – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures for equipment staging, Sunday, December 5, through Thursday, December 9, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 17 South – Motorists should expect single, mobile right lane closures for emergency generator operations, Monday, December 6, through Friday, December 10, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

NEWPORT NEWS/ HAMPTON

I-64 West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Mallory Street to Jefferson Avenue and from Jefferson Avenue to Route 143, for pavement marking, Tuesday, December 7, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the Mallory Street overpass to the HRBT bridge span for roadway sweeping, Sunday, December 5, and Tuesday, December 7, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL

I-64 East/West – The Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel will be closed to all vehicular traffic for tide gate testing, Sunday, December 5, from 4 to 6 a.m.  In the event of inclement weather, testing will occur on Monday, December 6, from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.  Motorists should use the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel as an alternate route.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single lane closures in the Hampton Roads Bridge- Tunnel for tunnel washing, Sunday, December 5, and  Monday, December 6, eastbound, and Tuesday, December 7, westbound, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64 East – Motorists should expect single lane closures in the Hampton Roads Bridge- Tunnel for the removal of piping on the trestle, Sunday, December 5, and Thursday, December 9, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures in the Hampton Roads Bridge- Tunnel for tile replacement and tunnel lighting maintenance, Tuesday, December 7, and Wednesday, December 8, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Tuesday through Thursday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011.

Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations.

MONITOR-MERRIMAC MEMORIAL BRIDGE-TUNNEL
I-664 North – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the MMMBT for tunnel maintenance, Sunday, December 5, through Thursday, December 9, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-664 South – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the MMMBT for drainage and wet-well repairs, Thursday, December 9, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures in the MMMBT for tunnel washing, Wednesday, December 8, and Thursday, December 9, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

DOWNTOWN TUNNEL
I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for lighting repairs, Monday, December 6, and Thursday, December 9, from 8 p.m. to midnight.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures for tunnel sweeping operations, Tuesday, December 7, and Friday, December 10, from midnight to 4 a.m.

MIDTOWN TUNNEL

Route 58 East/West – Motorists should expect lane closures, west bound on Sunday, December 5, through Tuesday, December 7,  9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. and east bound on Wednesday, December 8, and Thursday, December 9, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. for drain cleaning operations in the Midtown Tunnel.

NORFOLK
Route 13 Military Highway North – Motorists should expect a single lane closures between Raby Road and Lowery Road on Military Highway for utility equipment placement, beginning Monday, December 6. The Virginia Natural Gas utility relocation is expected through January, 2011.

I-64 East – Motorists should expect a single lane closure at New Gate Road, just before the I-564 exit for overhead sign maintenance in the HOV reversible roadway system, Tuesday, December 7 at 9 p.m. through Wednesday, December 8, at 3 a.m.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect single, mobile lane closures at Exit 11 for bridge safety inspection, Wednesday, December 8, through Friday, December 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile, alternating lane closures from Military Highway to City Hall Avenue for roadway repair, Sunday, December 5, through Thursday, December 9, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

I-564 East/West - Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the entrance ramp to the HOV reversible roadway for overhead sign evaluation, Monday, December 6, from 10 a.m. to noon.

I-564 East/West - Motorists should expect mobile closures at the on and off ramps for overhead roadway sweeping, Sunday, December 5, through Thursday, December 9, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the I-264 Interchange to 15th View Street for roadway sweeping, Monday, December 6, through Friday, December 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Motorists should be alert for on- and off-ramp shoulder closures.

Hampton Boulevard Grading Project
Motorists should expect a traffic shift on Hampton Boulevard onto a newly created detour road. The six-lane detour roadway was constructed as part of the Hampton Boulevard Grade Separation Project. The detour road will provide access to both NIT and NAS facilities, while maintaining the same vehicle capacity as the current Hampton Boulevard.

PORTSMOUTH

I-264 East – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at Greenwood Drive for overhead sign evaluation, Monday, December 6, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

CHESAPEAKE
I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, Tuesday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work.  Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue Sunday through Thursday until the end of August 2011.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the High Rise Bridge for bridge safety inspection, Monday, December 6, through Friday, December 10, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

I-64 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the Yadkin Road Overpass for guardrail repairs, Wednesday, December 8, from 9 to 11 p.m.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the High Rise Bridge to Battlefield Boulevard, including on and off ramps for shoulder restoration and guardrail replacement, Sunday, December 5, through Friday, December 10, from 8 to 6 a.m.

I-464 North – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the I-264 Interchange to the I-64 Interchange for overhead sign maintenance, Sunday, December 5, through Thursday, December 9, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect single lane closures at mile marker 19 for bridge deck joint reconstruction, Sunday, December 5, through Thursday, December 9, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

I-664 North – Motorists should expect single mobile lane closures at Route 58/Route 13 off ramp to Route 460 and Route 58 Overpass (Exit 13) for bridge safety inspection, Wednesday, December 8, through Friday, December 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Mount Pleasant Road North/South – Motorists should expect single, alternating lane closures at the Fentress Airfield Road Intersection for roadway construction, Sunday, December 5, through Friday, December 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

GILMERTON BRIDGE
Route 13 East/West – Motorists should expect daytime closures include flagging operations in the project work zone, stopping traffic in both directions for up to 10 minutes.

Motorists are asked to use extreme caution as work crews repair barrier walls on the traffic side of the wall.

Motorists are encouraged to use the I-64 High Rise Bridge as an alternative route to avoid delays. For more information, please visit the project website.

CHESAPEAKE/SUFFOLK
I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel for concrete repair, guardrail and shoulder restorations, Sunday, December 5, through Thursday, December 9, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

SUFFOLK
I-664 South – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at the Route164/Western Freeway for overhead sign maintenance, Wednesday, December 8 at 9 p.m. through Thursday, December 9 at 3 a.m.

I-664 South – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Route 58/Military Highway for overhead sign maintenance, Thursday, December 9 at 9 p.m. through Friday, December 10, at 3 a.m.

VIRGINIA BEACH
Witchduck Road North/South – Motorists should expect single median lane closures from Bonney Road to the I-264 Interchange on Witchduck Road and at Anvers Road and Witchduck Road for asphalt demolition, Monday, December 6, through Friday, December 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures between Independence Boulevard (Exit 17) and Rosemont Road (Exit 18) for overhead sign evaluation, Monday, December 6, from noon to 2 p.m.
