City Firefighters Will Get Some Sugar, Spice and Celery from Sexy Santas

If you’re driving down Lafayette Street in Williamsburg Wednesday afternoon and you happen to see a few scantily clad women in Santa outfits outside the fire station, don’t worry. You aren’t hallucinating from too much coffee.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) will be sending two “Sexy Santas” to deliver healthy, vegan goodies to the Williamsburg firefighters Wednesday around noon. A few weeks ago, Fire Chief Pat Dent asked thoughtful citizens who planned to bring meals and treats to his station as gifts to consider bringing “healthy snacks such as vegetables and fruit” instead of the typical holiday goodies. Always looking for an opportunity to get some attention for their cause, PETA decided to share some heart-friendly vegan treats and their “go-vegan” message through two eye-catching ladies in short red dresses, stiletto heels and festive hats.

"When Chief Dent implies that eating healthy vegetarian food will make his crew members lean, mean firefighting machines, he isn't just blowing smoke," says Sexy Santa Virginia Fort. "During the holidays—or at any other time—the best thing that anyone can do for animals, the environment, and themselves is to go vegan."

The Sexy Santas will also give the station a copy of the bestselling book The Engine 2 Diet, in which Texas firefighter Rip Esselstyn explains the significant health benefits that his entire unit experienced after adopting a plant-based diet.

"Everyone loves treats," said PETA spokeswoman Robbyn Brooks. "We encourage a healthier diet, or more compassionate diet."

The two Santas who will be in Williamsburg have been traveling a lot recently – last week they were in Cancun for the United Nations Climate Change Conference. Before that, they dressed as "sexy Pilgrims," handing out free samples of tofurkey roasts. At the beginning of 2010 they appeared as "lettuce ladies," wearing bikinis made of lettuce leaves and encouraging people to "turn over a new leaf" in the new year.
