Parkway Tunnel To Close For Repairs In JanuaryBy Amber Lester Kennedy Thursday, December 16, 2010 A tunnel on the Colonial Parkway will be closed to traffic for maintenance for four days in January. The tunnel, which runs beneath the Historic Area of Colonial Williamsburg, will be closed from Jan. 10 to 14 to allow National Park Service personnel to perform routine maintenance, including the replacement of overhead lights and cleaning the roadway. The Park Service and Williamsburg have established a marked detour route that will run through England Street, Lafayette Street, Henry Street and Newport Avenue during that week. Routine maintenance to the tunnel is performed twice a year. The work is planned for January because it will minimize the impact on park visitors and local residents, according to a press release from the Park Service. |
