jerry, long island new york is nearly the same as here....20 years of ice and snow yes there is a difference, but the real truth is that noone has a Clue about how to drive down here. The real chaos is not the weather or the roads it is the incredibly inept drivers that won't drive reasonably so that others are kept safe. If you are not comfy driving more than 15 miles an hour during these times than for all of us that need to be out there, please stay home.

I lived in upstate NY for 21 years and the first thing I learned there was to not drive on the first day of snow. Yes, they know how to drive in it, but they forget from year to year. It takes about a day to readjust. A few days ago they already had 30 inches.

Quoting fred:
thanks WMSBG/JCC for waking my family up at 5:30am to inform us school was closed. York county announced last night around 8:00pm that they were closing schools. They were able to sleep in a little longer. The forecast last night was the same as this morning. Why could ya'll make a decision last night like most of central VA and the Peninsula did?

I agree. Why in the world didn't WJCC Schools make this decision earlier?

Once again, I am very disappointed in the leadership.

Quoting SocraticThinker!:
Anyone in our town and county ever lived in New England for a time, or Minnesota?

I lived in Wisconsin for 4 years and they had the same fenderbenders and pile ups as we do.
The crazy drivers OUT ON THE ROAD are the crazy northerners that think somehow they are the experts - as in everything they do.

Please!!!!!
These folks who can't drive in ice/snow are NOT locals. We stay home - it's all you northerners who say you know how to drive in snow who have all the accidents because you're the only ones on the road! I've lived in upstate New York for years and THEY don't know how to drive in snow either.
All you've got to do is watch the news and see the pileups.

The wife works at a grocery store and she swears that it must be a tradition in Virginia to make French Toast whenever is snows. It seems that everyone in the commonwealth buys every last loaf of bread, gallon of milk, and egg to be had.

I lived a couple years in WV. No closings for a couple of inches. No closings for 5 inches.

It is funny how everything shuts down here.

But I tell you, I love it!

Except for a 20 years sentence in Northern VA I have lived in this area all my life and I have heard the accusation that no one here knows how to drive in the snow each time we have this weather. Mostly what we have here is ICE; can any of you northerners drive in ICE? Also, in my career I traveled very frequently to MN and New England and lo and behold heard the same lament about how people there didn't know how to drive in snow. Get over yourselves. There are bad drivers everywhere.
