Weather-Related Closings and Delays for Friday

Not much snow accumulated, but the combination of daytime snow and nighttime ice seems to have been enough to cause cancellations and postponements Friday. If your business or organization has a weather-related cancellation or postponement, email it to closings@wydaily.com and we'll include it in our frequently updated report.

Schools

Christopher Newport University - closed Friday, Dec. 17.

The College of William and Mary will open at 10 a.m. Friday, with custodial staff reporting at 8 a.m.

Peninsula Catholic School - closed Friday, Dec. 17.

Poquoson City Schools - closed Friday, Dec. 17; employees should report three hours late.

Thomas Nelson Community College - all campuses will open at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17.

Williamsburg Montessori School will be closed Friday, Dec. 17.

Williamsburg-James City County School Division will be closed for students Friday. All Bright Beginnings (PreSchool) and High School GED morning classes are canceled as well. All 12-month employees and School Emergency Response Team (SERT) members should report to work two hours late. Liberal leave is in effect for all 12-month employees.

York County School Division School and offices will be closed Friday.

Government
James City County - All government offices, community centers and convenience centers will operate on a one-hour delay today, December 17. Residents are advised to stay tuned to local media for the latest weather updates. County closings and weather-related information will be posted on the County web site, www.jccegov.com; JCC TV on Cox Cable channel 48; Facebook; and the County’s emergency hotline, (757) 875-2424. County residents can sign up to receive important emergency alerts, notifications and updates on their cell phones, e-mails, and more at www.JCCAlert.org. Text messaging charges may apply.

City of Williamsburg - All city government offices will open an hour late, at 9 a.m., Friday, Dec. 17.

Curbside recycling provided to James City County, Poquoson and York County for Thursday was canceled due to weather conditions. No make-up collection will be provided. (Williamsburg is not affected as their collection is on Wednesday only). This is a blanket policy, one written and approved that provides the least amount of confusion on this type of emergency weather situation.

Events
Virginia Regional Ballet's school show special performance of the Nutcracker at Phi Beta Kappa Memorial Hall, scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 17, will now be held at noon for those holding tickets and/or reservations. The public shows on Saturday at 2 and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. will be held as scheduled.

Attractions
Virginia Living Museum will open on a three-hour delay, at noon, on Friday, Dec. 17.
