VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: Dec. 19-25By WYDaily Staff Sunday, December 19, 2010 VDOT has had a big week, with snow and ice removal front and center after a couple of weather "events." In the week before Christmas, it's back to the usual roadwork. Here's VDOT's list of scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events. JAMES CITY COUNTY Route 60 South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures on Route 60, from Route 199 to Herdon Jenkins Road for median repairs, Tuesday, December 21, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday through Wednesday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011. Motorists are encouraged to use the I-664 Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations. For more project information, please visit the VDOT website. MONITOR-MERRIMAC MEMORIAL BRIDGE-TUNNEL I-664 South – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the MMMBT for air duct balancing, Sunday, December 19, through Thursday, December 23, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-664 South – Motorists should expect a single lane closure in the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel for tunnel washing, Tuesday, December 21, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. DOWNTOWN TUNNEL I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for tunnel washing operations, Tuesday, December 21, from midnight to 4 a.m. I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for tunnel sweeping operations, Tuesday, December 21, from midnight to 4 a.m. NORFOLK Route 13 Military Highway North – Motorists should expect a single lane closures between Raby Road and Lowery Road on Military Highway for utility equipment placement. The Virginia Natural Gas utility relocation is expected through January, 2011. Hampton Boulevard Grading Project Motorists should expect a traffic shift on Hampton Boulevard onto a newly created detour road. The six-lane detour roadway was constructed as part of the Hampton Boulevard Grade Separation Project. The detour road will provide access to both NIT and NAS facilities, while maintaining the same vehicle capacity as the current Hampton Boulevard. PORTSMOUTH/NORFOLK/VIRGINIA BEACH I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Greenwood Drive to Birdneck Road for bridge deck sweeping operations, Sunday, December 19, through Wednesday, December 22, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. CHESAPEAKE I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, Tuesday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work. Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue Sunday through Thursday until the end of August 2011. I-464 North – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the I-64 Interchange to the I-264 Interchange for overhead sign maintenance, Sunday, December 19, through Thursday, December 23, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Mount Pleasant Road North/South – Motorists should expect single, alternating lane closures at the Fentress Airfield Road Intersection for roadway construction, Sunday, December 19, through Wednesday, December 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. HIGH RISE BRIDGE I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single mobile lane closures on the High Rise Bridge for bridge safety inspection, Monday, December 20, through Wednesday, December 23, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. GILMERTON BRIDGE Route 13 East/West – The Gilmerton Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic Friday, December 17, beginning at 9 p.m. through 5 a.m. Monday, December 20, for drill shaft excavation, concrete pouring and roadway maintenance. In the event of inclement weather, the bridge will be closed on Monday, December 20, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. to complete the concrete pour. Motorists should use alternate routes. Motorists should expect daytime closures include flagging operations in the project work zone, stopping traffic in both directions for up to 10 minutes. Motorists are asked to use extreme caution as work crews repair barrier walls on the traffic side of the wall. Motorists are encouraged to use the I-64 High Rise Bridge as an alternative route to avoid delays. For more information, please visit the project website. VIRGINIA BEACH Witchduck Road North/South – Bonney Road will be closed from Witchduck Road to Parry Street for paving operations beginning 7 a.m. on Saturday, December 18, until 5 p.m. Sunday, December 19. Motorists should expect single median lane closures from Bonney Road to the I-264 Interchange on Witchduck Road and at Anvers Road and Witchduck Road for asphalt demolition, Sunday, December 19, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Monday, December 20, through Wednesday, December 23, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures between Witchduck Road and Parks Avenue for pothole repairs, Sunday, December 19, through Wednesday, December 22, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect lane closures between Independence Boulevard and Rosemont Road for overhead sign maintenance, Tuesday, December 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. |
