VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: Jan. 9-15By WYDaily Staff Sunday, January 09, 2011 In an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events. JAMES RIVER BRIDGE Route 17 South – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures on the James River Bridge for beam end repair, Monday, January 10, through Friday, January 14, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. Route 17 North – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures on the James River Bridge for equipment staging and beam end repairs. The northbound right lane will be closed, Monday, January 10, through Friday, January 14, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. NEWPORT NEWS/HAMPTON I-64 West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at the J. Clyde Morris/Route 17 Interchange overpass bridge approach for bridge inspections, Tuesday, January 11, and Wednesday, January 12, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists should be alert for shoulder and ramp closures. HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Monday through Thursday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011. Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations. For more project information, please visit the VDOT website. I-64 East – Motorists should expect lane closures at the HRBT for truss pipe removal, Monday, January 10, through Thursday, January 13, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. MONITOR-MERRIMAC MEMORIAL BRIDGE-TUNNEL I-664 South – Motorists should expect a single alternating lane closure in the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel for tunnel maintenance, Sunday, January 9, through Thursday, January 13, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. DOWNTOWN TUNNEL I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for tunnel sweeping operations, Tuesday, January 11, and Friday, January 14, from midnight to 5 a.m. NORFOLK I-264 West – Motorists should expect a ramp closure on the ramp from I-264 West to I-64 West for guardrail repair, Wednesday, January 12, from 11 p.m. to midnight. I-264 East – Motorists should expect a ramp closure on the ramp from I-264 East to I-64 West for guardrail repair, Wednesday, January 12, from midnight to 1 a.m. Hampton Boulevard Grading Project Motorists should expect a traffic shift on Hampton Boulevard onto a newly created detour road. The six-lane detour roadway was constructed as part of the Hampton Boulevard Grade Separation Project. The detour road will provide access to both NIT and NAS facilities, while maintaining the same vehicle capacity as the current Hampton Boulevard. NORFOLK/PORTSMOUTH/VIRGINIA BEACH I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Greenwood Drive to Birdneck Road for bridge sweeping operations, Sunday, January 9, through Thursday, January 13, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. PORTSMOUTH Route 164 East – Motorists should expect a single lane closure at Town Point Road for guardrail repairs, Tuesday, January 11, form 10 a.m. to noon. CHESAPEAKE I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work. Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue Sunday through Thursday until the end of August 2011. Mount Pleasant Road North – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures at Fentress Airfield Road for clearing associated with lane widening, Monday, January 10, through Thursday, January 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. GILMERTON BRIDGE Route 13 East/West – The Gilmerton Bridge will close to all vehicular traffic from 9 p.m. Friday, January 7, through 5 a.m., Monday, January 10, for concrete pouring and other roadway maintenance. Motorists should use the I-64 High Rise Bridge as an alternate route. Maritime traffic will not be affected by this closure. Motorists should expect daytime closures including flagging operations in the project work zone, stopping traffic in both directions for up to 10 minutes. Motorists are asked to use extreme caution as work crews repair barrier walls on the traffic side of the wall. For more information, please visit the project website. HIGH RISE BRIDGE I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the High Rise Bridge to Battlefield Boulevard for shoulder restoration and guardrail replacement, Monday, January 10, through Friday, January 14, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. NORFOLK/VIRGINIA BEACH I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from City Hall Avenue to Parks Avenue for pothole repairs, Saturday, January 8, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sunday, January 9, through Thursday, January 13, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-464 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from I-64 to Freeman Avenue for pothole repairs, Saturday, January 8, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Indian River Road to 15th View for pothole repairs, Sunday, January 9, through Thursday, January 13, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. VIRGINIA BEACH I-64 West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at the Providence Road overpass for overhead sign removal Thursday, January 13, and Friday, January 14, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. I-264 East– Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Witchduck Road (Exit 16) for overhead sign maintenance, from 9 p.m. Tuesday, January 11, through 3 a.m. Wednesday, January 12. I-264 West– Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Newtown Road (Exit 15) for overhead sign maintenance, from 9 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, through 3 a.m. Thursday, January 13. Witchduck Road North/South –Motorists should expect single median lane closures from Bonney Road to the I-264 Interchange on Witchduck Road and on Bonney Road between Witchduck Road and Parry Road for asphalt placement, Monday, January 10, through Saturday, January 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. |
