VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: Jan. 16-22By WYDaily Staff Sunday, January 16, 2011 In an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events. Other closures may occur which do not appear on this report.For current traffic and travel information, visit the VDOT website, call 511, call the TrafficLine at 757-361-3016 or listen to 610AM. I-264 West Downtown Tunnel will be closed to vehicular traffic from 11:30 p.m., Thursday, January 20, through 5 a.m. Friday, January 21, for ventilation testing. Motorists should use alternate routes. JAMES RIVER BRIDGE Route 17 South – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures on the James River Bridge for beam end repair, Monday, January 17, through Friday, January 21, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, January 16, through Thursday, January 20, from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. Route 17 North – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures on the James River Bridge for equipment staging Monday, January 17, through Friday, January 21, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Monday through Thursday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011. Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations. For more project information, please visit the VDOT website. MONITOR-MERRIMAC MEMORIAL BRIDGE-TUNNEL I-664 South – Motorists should expect a single alternating lane closure in the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel for tunnel maintenance, Sunday, January 16, through Thursday, January 18, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. DOWNTOWN TUNNEL I-264 West – The Downtown Tunnel will be closed to vehicular traffic from 11:30 p.m., Thursday, January 20, through 5 a.m. Friday, January 21, for ventilation testing. Motorists should use alternate routes. NORFOLK I-464 South – Motorists should expect a ramp closure to I-264 West Downtown Tunnel for roadway repairs, Tuesday, January 18, through Thursday, January 20, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hampton Boulevard Grading Project Motorists should expect a traffic shift on Hampton Boulevard onto a newly created detour road. The six-lane detour roadway was constructed as part of the Hampton Boulevard Grade Separation Project. The detour road will provide access to both NIT and NAS facilities, while maintaining the same vehicle capacity as the current Hampton Boulevard. CHESAPEAKE I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work. Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue Sunday through Thursday until the end of August 2011. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single, mobile lane closures at the I-464 Overpass for bridge safety inspection, Monday, January 17, through Friday, January 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single, mobile lane closures at the Great Bridge Boulevard Overpass for bridge safety inspection, Monday, January 17, through Friday, January 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single, mobile lane closures at the Greenbrier Parkway Overpass for bridge safety inspection, Monday, January 17, through Friday, January 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-464 North – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at the I-64/464 Interchange for overhead sign repairs, Tuesday, January 18, and Wednesday, January 19, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Mount Pleasant Road North – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures at Fentress Airfield Road for clearing associated with lane widening, Monday, January 17, through Thursday, January 20, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. GILMERTON BRIDGE Route 13 East/West – Motorists should expect daytime closures including flagging operations in the project work zone, stopping traffic in both directions for up to 10 minutes. Motorists are asked to use extreme caution as work crews repair barrier walls on the traffic side of the wall. For more information, please visit the project website. HIGH RISE BRIDGE I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the High Rise Bridge to Battlefield Boulevard for shoulder restoration and guardrail replacement, Monday, January 17, through Friday, January 21, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists should also be alert for shoulder and ramp closures. PORTSMOUTH I-264 West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Frederick Boulevard for overhead sign maintenance, Wednesday, January 19, and Thursday, January 20, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. PORTSMOUTH/NORFOLK/VIRGINIA BEACH I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Greenwood Drive to Birdneck Road for bridge sweeping, Sunday, January 16, through Thursday, January 20, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. NORFOLK/VIRGINIA BEACH I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from City Hall Avenue to Parks Avenue for pothole repairs, Sunday, January 16, through Thursday, January 20, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Indian River Road to 15th View for pothole repairs, Sunday, January 16, through Thursday, January 20, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. VIRGINIA BEACH I-264 East – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Witchduck Road for overhead sign maintenance, Thursday, January 20, and Friday, January 21, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Witchduck Road North/South – Motorists should expect single median lane closures from Bonney Road to the I-264 Interchange on Witchduck Road and on Bonney Road between Witchduck Road and Parry Road for asphalt placement, Sunday, January 16, through Saturday, January 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. SUFFOLK Route 164 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at College Drive Route 135 for bridge safety inspection, Monday, January 17, through Friday, January 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect single, mobile lane closures at College Drive (Exit 8) for Bridge Safety Inspection, Monday, January 17, through Friday, January 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect single, mobile lane closures at the Armistead Boulevard Overpass for Bridge Safety Inspection, Monday, January 17, through Friday, January 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. COURTLAND Southampton Parkway West – Motorists should expect a single lane closure on Southampton Parkway for right turn lane installation, Thursday, January 20, through Thursday, January 27, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. |
