York Crime Line: Scrap Metal, Package Thieves at Large

Police believe this man stole a package off a Tabb front porch.
The York-Poquoson Sheriffs Office is hoping video shot at the crime scenes will turn up leads on some thieves - one is suspected of snatching packages off porches, and the others took scrap metal from a commercial building's yard.

Video from a surveillance camera caught suspects around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday as they stole over $1000 worth of scrap copper and lead from behind the York Electric buiding in the 100 block of Production Drive. The video also captured the suspects' vehicle, a white, older model Chevrolet pickup with dark stripes on the hood. The truck appears to have some distinctive lights on the cab's roof. As the truck was leaving the parking lot an employee was able to read the first three letters of the license plate, which are XGU.

The week before, on Jan. 10, during the afternoon a suspect stole two separate delivered packages that had been left on porches at two different residences in the Tabb area of York County. One was stolen from a home in the 500 block of Meherrin Run; the other was taken from the 300 block of Lakeland Crescent.

Surveillance video captured the suspects' pickup leaving the business.
Then, on Jan. 11, someone opened a package and stole an item inside from the front porch of a home in the 100 block of Kyle Circle.

A home surveillance camera caught the person who took one of the packages, along with an image of the person's car, a dark-colored small sedan.

In early December, Newport News police had similar theft reports from some Kiln Creek neighborhoods.

Anyone with information on these crimes or any other crimes is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888 LOCK-U-UP.
