York County Super Kmart To Close Grocery

A Super K Center in Tabb will be converted to a Big Kmart.
Kmart will convert its Super Kmart in Tabb to a Big Kmart by eliminating its grocery section and trimming the workforce by April 1.

The 192,800-square-foot store, located in the Village Square at Kiln Creek shopping center, will also cut its operation hours from 24-hours-a-day to 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. The grocery section includes an in-house bakery, meat, seafood, delicatessen and specialty foods.

Under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, Kmart had to file notice that it intended to conduct a “mass layoff” at the store (see the notice here). All of the store’s 158 employees are vulnerable, but a smaller number of employees will likely be affected. Kmart did not respond by publishing time.

The Tabb location is one of 35 Super Centers in the country. Kmart has a total of 1,327 stores; Kmart plans to close 21 stores in the first part of this year.

As a former deli worker, those girls all bust their for way to little pay, benefits, and management that is so screwed up with policies, some are scary. I hope my fellow workers all get better jobs. I miss you guys!

I love K-Mart, just wish the Tabb displaced employees good luck in finding jobs in this economy. I hope the Big K-Mart will retain enough GOOD employees to keep lines minimal at check out & have some super sales!
