JCC Makes Online Information Easier to Find

James City County has set up a new web portal to help organize county information in a more easy-to-read way.

The portal can be found under the “citizen services” tab off the county’s homepage. It’s organized into two sections: “getting involved,” which helps citizens stay informed about local government and tax dollars, and “living here,” which gives information on day-to-day services and needs as well as information on hot topics in the county.

“Getting involved” includes links to county calendars, public meeting agendas, planning and land use information and resources about decision-making boards and commissions. “Living here” offers links to information such as tax rates and payment due dates, local property databases, education and civic engagement opportunities, current hot topics and county services that are available at the satellite services office in Toano.

Last year, County communications staff conducted focus groups on public information efforts and most recently listened to feedback offered during the new County Administrator’s community meetings. “This portal is a direct response to citizens telling us that it can be difficult to find County information. Now, from dog licenses to local government proceedings, we believe it’s easily found through this portal,” says Doug Powell, Assistant County Administrator.

The main page also gives citizens a chance to offer more feedback to the county.

The Citizen Services department was formed to help the County inform, educate and engage its residents. It was created by moving the existing offices of Communications, Cooperative Extension, Satellite Services and Civic Engagement initiatives under the supervision of the Assistant County Administrator.
