Hotel Association Has New LeaderBy WYDaily Staff Friday, February 04, 2011 The Williamsburg Hotel Motel Association has chosen Billy Scruggs as its new president. Scruggs, owner of the Fife and Drum Inn and Retro’s Good Eats, replaces outgoing President Chris Canavos. Scruggs has served on the Williamsburg Planning Commission and is a former Williamsburg City Council member. The transition was announced at the WHMA annual meeting on Wednesday. “I look forward to focusing on the primary mission of WHMA,” Scruggs said at the meeting. “We will work hard to determine our member’s concerns and needs and then, advocate accordingly. Our members have been, and will continue to be, a major component in the health and structure of the local economy. “I am confident we can and will renew and strengthen our relationships with our many partners in the tourism industry. It is now more vital than ever for us to work together if we are to hope Williamsburg can continue to compete in the ever growing pool of tourism destinations.” Ron Kirkland of the Patrick Henry Inn and Bluegreen Resorts will serve as Vice President. Thank You to Chris for being such a tireless advocate for the lodging and tourism industries.
Nice to have someone who will not moan, groan and complain, while blaming others for all our problems.
