Supes to Discuss Jamestown Road Traffic LightBy WYDaily Staff Tuesday, February 08, 2011 At their meeting Tuesday evening, James City County Supervisors will discuss the plan for a new traffic light at Jamestown Road. The Virginia Department of Transportation did a study on the area last year and determined a light was needed at Colony Square Shopping Center. Several citizens spoke out against the idea at the January 11 supervisors meeting, arguing a new light wasn’t needed now that Fresh Market plans to leave the shopping center. They were also concerned that a light would only serve to back up traffic even more in the area and block exiting traffic from businesses and neighborhoods.Supervisor John McGlennon asked the board to consider working on a resolution that would suspend plans for the light until a more comprehensive study could be done. That study would take into consideration the larger impact along the road as well as future changes and development plans. The board is set to discuss this at their Tuesday meeting. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in building F of the county government complex on Mounts Bay Road. Other business Supervisors will also consider accepting a grant for a beach stabilization project at Jamestown Beach Park. The Chesapeake Bay Trust, in partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Restoration Center and the Maryland Department of the Environment, awarded the grant for about $100,000. The project will cost just over $200,000, with the county covering $89,400. The plan is to build a living shoreline, which uses rocks to reduce the impact of waves and stabilize the shoreline while creating a healthy habitat. A similar project was completed last year at nearby Jamestown 4-H campground with the same type of grant funding.
