WJCC Seeks Nominations for Teachers of the YearBy Amber Lester Kennedy Saturday, February 12, 2011 Watching a great teacher can be like watching a conductor, capable of blending dissonant sounds into soaring symphonies. Some teachers go above and beyond to make sure their students don’t just learn the material, but learn how to be better people. Williamsburg-James City County wants to honor those teachers, and division is seeking nominations for the 2011 Teachers of the Year. Three teachers – one elementary school teacher, one middle school teacher and one high school teacher – will be chosen by a selection committee made up of school staff and community members. They’ll be honored at a special reception sponsored by the Williamsburg-James City County Education Foundation (WJCEF) on March 31 in the Dogwood Room at the College of William and Mary’s new School of Education. The winners will also each receive $500 from the WJCEF. “Thanks to some generous community donors who value high quality public education, we are pleased to offer this special incentive to our winning teachers in 2011,” said WJCEF President Andy Hungerman in a press release. Nomination forms are available in any WJCC school office or the Central Office at 101-D Mounts Bay Road in the James City County Government complex. The form can also be downloaded from the home page. Submissions must include a current vita for the teacher being nominated. Completed forms should be mailed or dropped off to Greg Davy, Communications Specialist, 101-D Mounts Bay Road, Williamsburg, VA 23185. |
