VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: Feb. 13-20By WYDaily Staff Sunday, February 13, 2011 In an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events. NOTE: VDOT will close the I-264 Downtown Tunnel Westbound for six consecutive weekends beginning Friday, February 18. The westbound Tunnel will close from 7 p.m. on Fridays and reopen at 5 a.m. on Mondays. JAMES RIVER BRIDGE Route 17 South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures on the James River Bridge for joint material and roadway hatch cover installation, Saturday, February 12, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Route 17 South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures on the James River Bridge for beam end repair, Monday, February 14, through Friday, February 18, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Route 17 North – Motorists should expect left lane closures on the James River Bridge for equipment staging, Monday, February 14, through Friday, February 18, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Route 17 North – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures at the James River Bridge for hanger bracket installation, Sunday, February 13, through Thursday, February 17, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. HAMPTON/NEWPORT NEWS I-664 North – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the I-64 Interchange for bridge safety inspection, Monday, February 14, through Friday, February 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-664 South – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the I-64 Interchange for bridge safety inspection, Monday, February 14, through Friday, February 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. HAMPTON/NORFOLK/PORTSMOUTH/SUFFOLK I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from Mallory Street in Hampton to Bowers Hill in Suffolk for pothole repairs, Sunday, February 13, through Friday, February 18, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. HAMPTON/NORFOLK/VIRGINIA BEACH I-64 East/West - Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from Mallory Street in Hampton to Indian River Road in Virginia Beach for pothole repairs, Monday, February 14, through Friday, February 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday through Thursday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011. Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations. I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures at the Downtown Tunnel for tunnel sweeping operations, Tuesday, February 15, and Friday, February 18, from midnight to 5 a.m. I-264 East – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the Downtown Tunnel for tunnel maintenance operations, Sunday, February 13, and Monday, February 14, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-264 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the Downtown Tunnel for tunnel maintenance operations, Tuesday, February 15, and Wednesday, February 16, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. NORFOLK Hampton Boulevard Grading Project Hampton Boulevard traffic continues to be temporarily detoured between Mapleshade Avenue and B Avenue. The six-lane detour will remain in place until the underpass is constructed. Project completion is scheduled for winter 2013. I-64 East – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the ramp from I-64 East to I-264 West for vegetation control, Monday, February 14, through Friday, February 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures at the Little Creek Road (Exit 276) to the I-264 Interchange for roadway sweeping, Sunday, February 13, through Thursday, February 17, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from Granby Street to the I-264 Interchange, Sunday, February 13, through Thursday, February 17, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-64 West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the I-264 Interchange for overhead sign maintenance, Monday, February 14, through Thursday, February 17, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-264 East – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the I-64 Interchange for overhead sign maintenance, Monday, February 14, through Thursday, February 17, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-564 West Runway Tunnel – Motorists should expect single lane closures from the ascent of the tunnel through the exit portal for generator maintenance and pumping system component installation, Thursday, February 17, and Friday, February 18, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. PORTSMOUTH/NORFOLK/VIRGINIA BEACH I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Effingham Street to First Colonial Road for drain cleaning operations, Monday, February 14, through Friday, February 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. CHESAPEAKE I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work. Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue Sunday through Thursday until the end of August 2011. I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at the Bower’s Hill Interchange for bridge deck repairs and joint reconstruction, Sunday, February 13, through Thursday, February 17, from 8 p.m. through 6 a.m. I-64 West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the I-464 Interchange for overhead sign repair, Friday, February 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect multiple, alternating lane closures from the Rotunda Bridge near the I-264 Interchange (Exit 299) to Battlefield Boulevard (Exit 290) for shoulder restoration and guardrail replacement, Sunday, February 13, through Friday, February 18, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists should also be alert for on and off ramp closures. HIGH RISE BRIDGE I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect shoulder closures before and after the High Rise Bridge for bore testing, Monday, February 14, through Friday, February 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. GILMERTON BRIDGE Route 13 East/West – Motorists should expect daytime closures including flagging operations in the project work zone, stopping traffic in both directions for up to 10 minutes. Crews will replace delineators, located on the roadway, during bridge closures. Motorists are asked to use extreme caution in the work zone. For more information, please visit the project website.
