Leadership Academy Teaches How Government Works

James City County citizens who want to understand how local government works can sign up for the 2011 Citizen Leadership Academy.

The free ten-session program teaches citizens how local government works, and how they can become involved. The Academy, scheduled to start March 15, covers citizen services and civic engagement, economic development and tourism, public safety and the county budget.

Participants also get a peek at a day in the life of the county’s government employees during a full-day tour.

Most sessions in the Citizen Leadership Academy are from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays at the James City/Williamsburg Community Center. The class size is limited to 25 participants and attendance is required at all sessions. Applications and additional information are available here or by calling 259-4986. The deadline to apply is Feb. 25.
