Supes Will Review Progress of Ordinance Update

James City County Supervisors will get a summary of the ordinance update process on Tuesday afternoon.

Last year, the county started the process of revamping some of its ordinances to better line up with the most recent Comprehensive Plan and the needs of the county. The public has had opportunities to share input at different intervals in the process, and staff is ready to update supervisors on the process so far. Staff hasn’t yet begun stage two of the process, which is to develop draft ordinances.

Priority items are currently the Economic Opportunity Zone, commercial districts, cumulative impact modeling, and development standards, and this will be the focus of discussion in the board’s work session Tuesday.

The board will meet for its work session at 4 p.m. on Tuesday in the Building F board room.

The Planning Commission Policy Committee has scheduled the following meetings on the ordinance update: Wednesday, February 23 (to discuss procedural and administrative items, including environmental and fiscal impact submittal guidelines, subdivisions, and nonconforming uses), Thursday, February 24 (to discuss mixed use and green building), and Tuesday, March 1 (to discuss wireless communications facilities, signage, and other items).

These meetings will begin at 7 p.m. in Building A of the James City County Government Center on Mounts Bay Road.

Citizens can keep up with the process and share input online on the county's ordinance update website.
