VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: Feb. 20-27

vdotlogoIn an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events. Other closures may occur, although they do not appear on this report.

NOTE: VDOT will close the I-264 Downtown Tunnel westbound for six consecutive weekends, a closure that began Friday, Feb. 18. The westbound tunnel will close from 7 p.m. on Fridays and reopen at 5 a.m. on Mondays. JAMES RIVER BRIDGE
Route 17 South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures on the James River Bridge for beam end repair, Monday, February 21, through Friday, February 25, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, February 20, through Thursday, February 24, from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 17 North – Motorists should expect left lane closures on the James River Bridge for equipment staging, Monday, February 21, through Friday, February 25, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

HAMPTON/NEWPORT NEWS
I-664 North – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Aberdeen Road for overhead sign maintenance, Thursday, February 24, through Friday, February 25, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

I-64 East/West - Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures at the I-664 Interchange for bridge safety inspection, Monday, February 21, and Tuesday, February 22, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

HAMPTON/NORFOLK/VIRGINIA BEACH
I-64 East/West - Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from Mallory Street (Exit 268) in Hampton to Indian River Road (Exit 286) in Virginia Beach for pothole repairs, Sunday, February 20, through Friday, February 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Monday, February 21, through Friday, February 25, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64 East/West - Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from Mallory Street (Exit 268) in Hampton to Indian River Road (Exit 286) in Virginia Beach for roadway sweeping, Sunday, February 20, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL

I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday through Thursday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011.

Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations. For more project information, please visit the VDOT website.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating, mobile lane closures for pothole repairs at portals, Wednesday, February 23, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

MONITOR-MERRIMAC MEMORIAL BRIDGE-TUNNEL
I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures for tunnel sweeping operations, Wednesday, February 23, and Thursday, February 24, from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.

DOWNTOWN TUNNEL
I-264 West – The Downtown Tunnel Westbound (from Norfolk to Portsmouth) will be closed to vehicular traffic for ceiling panel removal from 7 p.m. Friday, February 18, through 5 a.m. Monday, February 21.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures at the Downtown Tunnel for tunnel sweeping operations, Tuesday, February 22, and Friday, February 25, from midnight to 5 a.m.

NORFOLK
Hampton Boulevard Grading Project
Hampton Boulevard traffic continues to be temporarily detoured between Mapleshade Avenue and B Avenue. The six-lane detour will remain in place until the underpass is constructed. Project completion is scheduled for winter 2013.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures at the Little Creek Road (Exit 276) to the I-264 Interchange for roadway sweeping, Sunday, February 13, through Thursday, February 17, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Brambleton Avenue for overhead sign maintenance, Tuesday, February 22, through Wednesday, February 23, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

I-264 West - Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at the Witchduck Road Overpass for overhead sign maintenance, Wednesday, February 23, through Thursday, February 24, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

CHESAPEAKE
I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work.  Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue Sunday through Thursday until the end of August 2011.

I-464 South – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from Freeman Avenue (Exit 3) to the I-264 Interchange, for overhead sign maintenance Sunday, February 20, through Tuesday, February 20, from 7 p.m. through 5 a.m.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect multiple, alternating lane closures from the Rotunda Bridge near the I-264 Interchange (Exit 299) to Battlefield Boulevard (Exit 290) for shoulder restoration and guardrail replacement, Sunday, February 20, through Friday, February 25, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists should also be alert for on and off ramp closures.

I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect north and southbound lane closures at the Bowers Hill Interchange for bridge deck repairs, Sunday, February 20, through Thursday, February 25, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

HIGH RISE BRIDGE
I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect shoulder closures before and after the High Rise Bridge for fencing and conduit and junction box installation, Monday, February 21, through Friday, February 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the High Rise Bridge for drain cleaning operations, Monday, February 21, through Friday, February 25, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

GILMERTON BRIDGE
Route 13 East/West – Motorists should expect daytime closures including flagging operations in the project work zone, stopping traffic in both directions for up to 10 minutes.

Crews will replace delineators, located on the roadway, during draw bridge openings. Motorists are asked to use extreme caution in the work zone.

I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures between the Bowers Hill Interchange and Portsmouth Boulevard for pothole repairs, Wednesday, February 23, through Friday, February 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 a.m.

I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures between Bowers Hill and the Monitor- Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel for guardrail repairs, concrete patching, pavement repairs and drain maintenance, Sunday, February 20, through Thursday, February 24, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

PORTSMOUTH/NORFOLK/VIRGINIA BEACH
I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Effingham Street (Exit 7) to Birdneck Road (Exit 22) for drain cleaning, Monday, February 21, through Friday, February 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

PORTSMOUTH

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at from the Bowers Hill Interchange to Effingham Street (Exit 7) for roadway sweeping, Tuesday, February 22, through Friday, February 25, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to Victory Boulevard (Exit 3) for overhead sign maintenance, Sunday, February 20, and Monday, February 21, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from Victory Boulevard (Exit 3) to Frederick Boulevard (Exit 5) for overhead sign maintenance, Sunday, February 20, and Monday, February 21, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from Frederick Boulevard (Exit 5) to Effingham Street (Exit 7) for overhead sign maintenance, Sunday, February 20, and Monday, February 21, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from Effingham Street (Exit 7) to the I-464 Interchange for overhead sign maintenance, Sunday, February 20, and Monday, February 21, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

MLK Freeway/Route 164 – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures for pothole repairs, alternating lanes and directions, Friday, February 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

VIRGINIA BEACH
Witchduck Road North/South –Motorists should expect single median lane closures from Bonney Road to the I-264 Interchange on Witchduck Road and on Bonney Road for asphalt placement and storm drainage installation, Monday, February 21, through Friday, February 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures from Laskin Road (Exit 20) to Birdneck Road (Exit 22) for barrier wall repairs, Monday, February 21, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
