Ferry to Shut Down Briefly Early Friday A.M.

Early morning commuters who rely on the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry should consider other routes - or hours - Friday.

Virginia Department of Transportation crews will close the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry Friday, Feb. 25, at 3:15 a.m., in order to perform maintenance on the hydraulic lift system at the Jamestown dock. The ferry service will be suspended for approximately an hour. There will not be a 3:30 a.m. ferry from Jamestown, or a 4 a.m. ferry from Scotland.

The work is being scheduled on Friday morning, a time of reduced activity for the ferry, to reduce inconvenience to the traveling public. Motorists should expect delays during the closure and may want to consider the I-664 Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel, the James River Bridge (Route 17), or the Benjamin Harrison Memorial Bridge (Route 106/156) as alternate routes.

Motorists are encouraged to call the ferry hotline, which is available 24 hours a day, at 1-800-VAFERRY.

Thanks, WYDaily, for these constant, very local reports on bridges and roads and...ferries!
