Unlocked Cars Prove Easy Target for JCC Thieves

James City County police are investigating a rash of thefts from vehicles in the Fieldcrest, Berkeley's Green and Kingspoint neighborhoods over the weekend.

Police spokesman Maj. Steve Rubino said most of the vehicles targeted had been unlocked.

Taken from the cars were small electronics that would be attractive to young people, like iPods and gaming accessories, while items like GPS units were left untouched. Also taken was ADHD medication, while prescription medicine for migraines was left behind.

Rubino said the items taken were easily grabbed "with minimal effort." He encouraged residents to lock their vehicles and not leave valuables in plain view.

Anyone with information about the thefts is encouraged to call JCC police on the Crime Line, 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.

Simple solution - LOCK YOUR DOORS!!!!!!!!!

Why is that concept so hard to grasp? How many times do people have to hear this before they start following the recommendation? I'm not saying it's ok to be a crook obviously, but seriously! Just stop giving them unlocked doors.

To the people who automatically point to teenagers, that's ignorant! There are a LOT of people on hard times right now. If you give them an open door, and they are the stealing kind, they are going to do it. So again - LOCK YOUR DOORS!!

as the accompaning liturature so perfectly puts it, never leave your amphetamines where they can be taken accidently or on purpose by someone else... apparently these words of wisdom also apply to small electronics.

We got a bunch of grafitti on street signs around here about the same time. Did the same group of kids do it, I wonder?

these criminals are more than likely kids or teenagers. Parents, do you know where your kids are at night and what their doing?
