VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: March 13-19By WYDaily Staff Sunday, March 13, 2011 In an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events. Other closures may occur which do not appear on this report.For current traffic and travel information, visit the VDOT website, call 511, call the TrafficLine at 757-361-3016 or listen to 610AM. Note: VDOT closed the I-264 Downtown Tunnel westbound from 7 p.m. on Friday, March 11, and will reopen it at 5 a.m. on Monday, March 14. The City Hall entrance ramp to I-264 will be closed during the tunnel closure. Motorists can access I-464 from the Tidewater Drive on-ramp, or the Market Street on-ramp. HENRICO/NEW KENT/JAMES CITY COUNTY/YORK/NEWPORT NEWS, HAMPTON I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile, alternating lane closures from the I-295 Interchange to Mallory Street (Exit 268) in Hampton for pothole patching, Monday, March 14, through Friday, March 18, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Motorists should be alert to ramp closures. YORK COUNTY I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures at the Queens Creek Bridge for interstate evaluation inspections, Sunday, March 13, from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. JAMES RIVER BRIDGE Route 17 South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures on the James River Bridge for beam end repair, Monday, March 14, through Friday, March 18, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, March 13, through Thursday, March 17, from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. Route 17 North – Motorists should expect left lane closures on the James River Bridge for equipment staging, Monday, March 14, through Friday, March 18, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. HAMPTON/NEWPORT NEWS I-64 East – Motorists should expect an oversize load at Rip Rap Road (Exit 265) Thursday, March 15, between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. I-664 South – Motorists should expect a single lane closure at the Terminal Avenue Bridge for bridge safety inspection, Monday, March 14, through Friday, March 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-664 South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures at Aberdeen Road (Exit 3) for bridge mounted sign panel and structure removal, Monday, March 14, through Friday, March 18, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. MONITOR-MERRIMAC MEMORIAL BRIDGE-TUNNEL I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures for tunnel Maintenance operations, Sunday, March 13, through Wednesday, March 16, from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday through Thursday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011. Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations. The six-lane detour will remain in place until the underpass is constructed. Project completion is scheduled for winter 2013. Route 164 East/West – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the West Norfolk Road bridge for bridge safety inspections, Monday, March 14, through Friday, March 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Route 164 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from the I-664 Interchange to the West Norfolk Bridge for pothole repairs, Monday, March 14, through Friday, March 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I-264 East – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures from Frederick Boulevard (Exit 5) to Effingham Street (Exit 7) for overhead sign maintenance, Sunday, March 13, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-264 West – Motorists should expect singe lane closures at Portsmouth Boulevard (Exit 4) for overhead sign repairs, Wednesday, March 16, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. NORFOLK/VIRGINIA BEACH I-264 East – Motorists should expect lane closures between the I-264/I-64 Interchange for shoulder repair, from Monday, March 14, through Thursday, March 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. PORTSMOUTH/NORFOLK/VIRGINIA BEACH I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Effingham Street (Exit 7) in Portsmouth to Birdneck Road (Exit 25) for storm drain cleaning, from Monday, March 14, through Friday, March 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. CHESAPEAKE I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work. Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue Sunday through Thursday until the end of August 2011. Galberry Road Intersection Improvement - Route 13 South Military Highway – Motorists should expect lane closures at Cavalier Boulevard and Executive Drive on South Military Highway for intersection improvements to Galberry Road. The improvement project includes drainage system upgrades and the installation of left turn lane. Crews will close the center lanes on South Military Highway at the Galberry Road intersection beginning Monday, March 14, through the completion of the project in May, 2011. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously in the work zone. Crews will be on the roadway Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-64/I-264 Interchange for bridge joint repair and replacement, Sunday, March 13, through Friday, March 18, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. I-264 West – Motorists should expect lane closures from Route 17 George Washington Highway, to the I-264 Interchange, for guardrail repairs, Monday, March 14, through Friday, March 18, from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Rotunda Bridge to the Battlefield Interchange for shoulder restoration and guardrail repair, Sunday, March 13, through Friday, March 18, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. I-64 West – Motorists should expect a single lane closures from the I-264 Interchange (Exit 299) to Route 17/George Washington Highway (Exit 296) for guardrail repairs, Monday, March 14, through Friday, March 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. I-664 South – Motorists should expect a lane closure on the Route 58 East/West on-ramp to I-664 South for shoulder repairs, Thursday, March 17, and Friday, March 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Route 58 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from Bowers Hill to the Suffolk city line for pothole repairs, Monday, April 14, through Friday, April 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. HIGH RISE BRIDGE I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures at the High Rise Bridge for bridge joints repair and replacement, Monday, March 14, through Friday, March 18, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures at the High Rise Bridge for bridge deck cleaning, Monday, March 14, through Wednesday, March 16, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. GILMERTON BRIDGE Route 13 East/West – Motorists should expect daytime closures including flagging operations in the project work zone, stopping traffic in both directions for up to 10 minutes. Crews will replace delineators, located on the roadway, during draw bridge openings. Motorists are asked to use extreme caution in the work zone.
