TripAdvisor Ranks Williamsburg Number One

Williamsburg received the top spot in TripAdvisor’s “Top 10 Places to Discover in the United States.” The Williamsburg Inn also received a top ranking, as the number one family-friendly hotel in the website’s 2011 Traveler’s Choice Family Awards.

TripAdvisor’s awards recognized Williamsburg for its variety of activities, including the Colonial Williamsburg Historic Area, Busch Gardens, Water Country and the historic areas of Yorktown, Jamestowne and the Jamestown Settlement.

The Williamsburg Inn was conceived and built by John D. Rockefeller Jr. and opened in April 1937. It overlooks the Golden Horseshoe Gold Course and is adjacent to tennis courts, swimming pools and a three-mile nature trail.

CW is currently advertising a “Spring Bounce Package,” making family visits more affordable between March 18 and June 16. The three-day, two-night package starts at $305 per night for a family of four with nightly accommodations at the Williamsburg Woodlands and three-in-one tickets for unlimited general admission to CW, Busch Gardens and Water Country USA. The rates vary with check-in day, but it is price for a Sunday-Wednesday arrival.

This is amazing! What a joke - the Wmbg Inn family friendly - ha ha! And the Woodlands - CW should be ashamed to have that property and the Gov Inn in their portfolio. When your hotels are as rundown as these two are, and you have no money to upgrade, then you need to get out of the business! Stick to being a museum and let hoteliers run hotels (and guess what CW, you have no real hoteliers on your staff).

Did you notice the bait and switch? The article talks about the Williamsburg Inn getting and award then switches to the bounce pass with lodging at the Woodlands. That's on the other side of the railroad tracks - literally.

really excited to see Colonial Williamsburg receive this honor. I use tripadvisor quite a bit and most of the people on the site are quite knowledgable, so to earn their nod over orlando and some of the other common family destinations is a big deal.

Excellent - but the title for Williamsburg Inn should more aptly be "Wealthiest Families Friendly Hotel 2011." Can you imagine a family of four doing a room and meals for a few days at that place?

Quoting Bill:
We must make attractions affordable. Working together maybe the pie could be shared.

CW does not share.

Williamsburg Inn -- family friendly??? Maybe if your surname is Rockefeller.

Just kinda makes you wonder about the entire story.
