WJCC Board Approves New Meeting Schedule

Regular attendees and viewers of the Williamsburg-James City County School Board’s meetings will notice some differences in coming months.

On Tuesday, the board approved a proposal from Superintendent Steven Constantino to alter the structure of board meetings and agendas in hopes of streamlining the process.

Starting in May, the board will have its work session on the first Tuesday of the month and its meeting on the third Tuesday of the month. The change is intended to prevent business from carrying into the following month.

The order of presentations and information on agendas will also change. Constantino wanted to add “placeholder agenda items” to discuss requests for proposals for contract work. By adding that to the agenda before those requests are sent out, board members will better be able to evaluate the bids before approving a vendor.

The amended meeting dates can be found here.

A change in meeting schedule will not solve the problems of a School Board that has lost focus on what schools are really for. They are so "in control" [thus out of control] that Dr. C will not have a "real" chance to manage on a daily basis. The decision to close ALL connected to middle school capacity is a matter of a Board that "thinks" it knows best. Obviously, it does not. I hope for a return to focusing on kids and their learning. A real try at the ALL Academy would place at least 100 or more students in James Blair. Woes solved. Except for this same Board being in control.
