VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: March 27-April 2

vdotlogoIn an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. Historic Triangle residents and commuters should take note of alternating lane closures on I-64 throughout the week for a variety of repairs and inspections. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events. Other closures may occur that do not appear on this report.

Note: VDOT will close the I-264 Downtown Tunnel westbound from 7 p.m. on Friday, March 25, and reopen at 5 a.m. on Monday, March 28. The City Hall entrance ramp to I-264 will be closed during the tunnel closure. Motorists can access I-464 from the Tidewater Drive on-ramp, or the Market Street on-ramp.

JAMES CITY COUNTY
I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures at the Route 30 overpass for bridge safety inspection, Friday, April 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

JAMES RIVER BRIDGE

Route 17 North – Motorists should expect a single left lane closure on the James River Bridge for equipment staging, Monday, March 28, through Friday, April 1, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

I-64 East – Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures at Route 30/Route 60 (Exit 227) for bridge mounted sign panel and structure removal, Monday, March 28, through Thursday, March 31, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 17 South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures on the James River Bridge for beam end repair, Monday, March 28, through Friday, April 1, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, March 27, through Thursday, March 30, from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.

YORK COUNTY
I-64 West – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures at Route 607/Route 30 (Exit 231A) for bridge mounted sign panel and structure removal, Monday, March 28, through Thursday, March 31, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64 West – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures at Route 199 (Exit 234A) for bridge mounted sign panel and structure removal, Monday, March 28, through Thursday, March 31, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

YORK COUNTY/NEWPORT NEWS
I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Jefferson Avenue to Route 143 for pavement marking repairs, Monday, March 28, through Friday, April 1 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

HAMPTON
I-664 South – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures at Aberdeen Road (Exit 3) for bridge mounted sign panel and structure removal, Monday, March 28, through Thursday, March 31, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures from Mile Marker 0 to 2 to perform asphalt repairs between the flyovers and Powhatan Parkway, Sunday, March 27, through Thursday, March 31, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

NEWPORT NEWS

I-64 East – Motorists should expect lane closures at the Denbigh Boulevard overpass at C&O Railroad for bridge joint repair, Monday, March 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  In the event of inclement weather, the repairs will be made on Tuesday, March 29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

HAMPTON/NEWPORT NEWS
I-64 West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Mallory Street to Jefferson Avenue for pavement marking repairs, Monday, March 28, through Friday, April 1 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

HAMPTON/NORFOLK
I-64 East – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Mallory Street to I-564 for pavement marking repairs, Monday, March 28, through Friday, April 1 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL
I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday through Thursday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011.

Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations.

I-64 West – Motorists should expect a single lane closure for tunnel lighting replacement, Sunday, March 27, through Wednesday, March 30, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

DOWNTOWN TUNNEL

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for sweeping operations, Sunday, March 27, and Thursday, March 31, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.

DOWNTOWN TUNNEL
I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for lighting repairs, Monday, March 28 through Thursday, March 31, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

NORFOLK

Hampton Boulevard Grading Project
Hampton Boulevard traffic continues to be temporarily detoured between Mapleshade Avenue and B Avenue. The six-lane detour will remain in place until the underpass is constructed. Project completion is scheduled for winter 2013.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from Tidewater Drive to Military Highway for pavement marking, Sunday, March 27, through Thursday, March 31, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures for drain cleaning from Mile Marker 7 to 25, Monday, March 28, through Friday, April 1, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures at the I-564 Overpass for bridge safety inspection, Wednesday, March 30, and Thursday, March 31, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64 West – Motorists should expect a single alternating lane closure between mile Marker 272 and 278 for overhead sign repair, Sunday, March 27 through Friday, April 1, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Norview Avenue South – Motorists should expect lane closures from the I-64 eastbound Norview Avenue off ramp to Humboldt Street for utility relocation equipment staging, Monday, March 28, through Friday, April 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

NORFOLK/PORTSMOUTH
I-264 East – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from DesMoines Avenue (Exit 6) to I-464 West (Exit 8) for overhead sign panel removal and replacement Monday, March 28, through Friday, April 1, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from Frederick Boulevard (Exit 5) to I-464 West (Exit 8) for overhead sign panel removal and replacement Tuesday, March 29, and Wednesday, March 30, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

PORTSMOUTH
I-264 East – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures from Frederick Boulevard (Exit 5) to Effingham Street (Exit 7) for overhead sign maintenance, Sunday, March 27, through Monday, March 28, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures from Effingham Street (Exit 7) to Des Moines Avenue (Exit 6) for overhead sign maintenance, Sunday, March 27, through Monday, March 28, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect singe lane closures from Des Moines Avenue (Exit 6) to Portsmouth Boulevard (Exit 4) for overhead sign repairs, Monday, March 28, through Wednesday, March 30, from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect singe lane closures from Frederick Boulevard (Exit 5) to Victory Boulevard (Exit 3) for overhead sign repairs, Wednesday, March 30, through Thursday, March 31, from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect singe lane closures from Portsmouth Boulevard (Exit 4) to Greenwood Drive (Exit 2) for overhead sign repairs, Thursday, March 31, and Friday, April 1, from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m.

CHESAPEAKE
I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work.  Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue Sunday through Thursday until the end of August 2011.

Galberry Road Intersection Improvement - Route 13 South Military Highway – Motorists should expect lane closures at Cavalier Boulevard and Executive Drive on South Military Highway for intersection improvements to Galberry Road. The improvement project includes drainage system upgrades and the installation of a left turn lane.  Crews will close the center lanes on South Military Highway at the Galberry Road intersection through the completion of the project in May 2011.

Motorists are advised to drive cautiously in the work zone. Crews will be on the roadway Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Fentress Airfield Road -  Fentress Airfield Road will remain closed between Mount Pleasant Road and Blackwater Road for intersection improvements until the end of April.

During the road closure motorists can use the following detour, which is approximately 15 miles:

From North Landing Road motorists will turn right on Mount Pleasant Road, left on Centerville Turnpike and left on Land of Promise Road.

From Blackwater Road, motorists will turn left on Fentress Airfield Road, right on Land of Promise Road, right on Centerville Turnpike, right on Mount Pleasant Road and right on North Landing Road.

Mount Pleasant Road – Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures at the intersection of Mt. Pleasant Road and Flag Ridge Lane for drainage pipe installation, Monday, March 28, through Friday, April 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the Bowers Hill off-ramp from I-664 for underside bridge inspection, Monday, March 28, from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the Bowers Hill westbound on-ramp from I-664 for underside bridge inspection, Tuesday, March 29, from 9 a.m. to noon.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the Bowers Hill on-ramp from I-64 to I-664 for underside bridge inspection, Monday, March 28, from 9 a.m. to noon.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Rotunda Bridge to the Battlefield Interchange for shoulder restoration and guardrail repair, Sunday, March 27, through Friday, April, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single lane closures near the West Norfolk Bridge for washout repair, Monday, March 28, from 9 a.m. to noon.

HIGH RISE BRIDGE
I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures at the High Rise Bridge for bridge joint repair, Monday, March 28, through Friday, April 1, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

CHESAPEAKE/SUFFOLK
I-664 South– Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from Bower’s Hill to the MMMBT for concrete and guardrail repair, Sunday, March 27, through Thursday, March 31, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

GILMERTON BRIDGE
Route 13 East/West – Motorists should expect daytime closures including flagging operations in the project work zone, stopping traffic in both directions for up to 10 minutes. Crews will be restriping roadway during daytime closures.

Crews will replace delineators, located on the roadway, during draw bridge openings. Motorists are asked to use extreme caution in the work zone.

VIRGINIA BEACH

Witchduck Road North/South –Motorists should expect single median lane closures from Bonney Road to the I-264 Interchange on Witchduck Road and on Bonney Road for asphalt placement and manhole reconstruction, Monday, March 28, through Friday, April 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
