VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: April 10-16

vdotlogoIn an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events. Other closures may occur that do not appear on this report.

MONITOR-MERRIMAC MEMORIAL BRIDGE-TUNNEL
I-664 North – Motorists should expect single lane closures for tunnel asphalt repairs, Wednesday, April 13, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect single mobile alternating lane closures for tunnel sweeping operations, Tuesday, April 12, through Thursday, April 14, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-664 South – Motorists should expect single lane closures for tunnel under drain pipe flushing, Sunday, April 10, and Monday, April 11, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-664 North – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures on the northbound bridge for lighting safety inspection, Monday, April 11, through Thursday, April 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect single lane closures for monthly fire extinguisher inspections, Thursday, April 14, from 7 to 11 p.m. Motorists should expect intermittent traffic stoppages in the tunnel for up to 15 minutes.

HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL

I-64 East – Motorists should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday through Thursday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011.

Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel to avoid delays. Take Exit 264 to access I-664. Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations. Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations.

I-64 West – Motorists should expect a single left lane closure for roadway hatch maintenance, Monday, April 11, and Tuesday, April 12, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single mobile alternating lane closures for tunnel sweeping operations, Sunday, April 10, through Friday, April 15, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64 West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures for lighting safety inspection on the right shoulder of the westbound bridge, Wednesday, April 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, the work will be performed on Thursday, April 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single lane closures for monthly fire extinguisher inspection, Tuesday, April 12, from 8 p.m. to midnight. Motorists should expect intermittent traffic stoppages in the tunnel for up to 15 minutes.

HAMPTON/NORFOLK

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single mobile alternating lane closures from Mallory Street (Exit 268) in Hampton to the I-264 Interchange (Exit 284) in Norfolk for mobile pothole operations, Monday, April 11, through Friday, April 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

DOWNTOWN TUNNEL
I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect single mobile alternating lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for sweeping operations Monday, April 11, Tuesday, April 12, Thursday, April 14, and Friday, April 15, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for hand rail repairs, Sunday, April 10, through Friday, April 15, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for lighting repairs, Sunday, April 10, through Wednesday, April 13, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

NORFOLK
Hampton Boulevard Grading Project

Hampton Boulevard traffic continues to be temporarily detoured between Mapleshade Avenue and B Avenue. The six-lane detour will remain in place until the underpass is constructed. Project completion is scheduled for winter 2013.

Norview Avenue South – Motorists should expect lane closures south of the I-64 East off ramp on Norview Avenue to Humboldt Street, for utility relocation activities, Monday, April 11, through Friday, April 22, from9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-564 Runway Tunnel East/West – Motorists should expect single mobile alternating lane closures for tunnel sweeping operations, Thursday, April 14, and Friday, April 15, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-564 East/West - Runway Tunnel – Motorists should expect single mobile alternating lane closures for tunnel lighting repairs, Sunday, April 10, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-564 East – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the I-64 westbound flyover interchange for bridge safety inspection, Monday, April 11, through Friday, April 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-564 East/West – Motorists should expect single, mobile alternating lane closures between Admiral Taussig Boulevard and I-64 for bridge safety inspection, Monday, April 11, through Friday, April 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Broad Creek Bridge to Military Highway for overhead sign maintenance, Tuesday, April 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect single lane closures at Brambleton Avenue for overhead sign maintenance, Wednesday, April 13, from 9 p.m. to Thursday, April 14, at 3 p.m.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect single mobile alternating lane closures from Tidewater Drive (Exit 10) to the I-64 Interchange (Exit14) for median barrier drain cleaning, Monday, April 11, through Friday, April 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect closures at the St. Pauls Boulevard and Waterside Drive off-ramps for bridge safety inspections, Saturday, April 9 and Sunday, April 10, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.  Detours to Tidewater Drive will be in place during the ramp closures.

PORTSMOUTH

Route 164 East/West – Motorists should expect single lane closures at the West Norfolk Bridge for roadway repairs, Wednesday, April 13, through Friday, April 15, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. and Friday, April 15, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Route 164 East – Motorists should expect single lane closures on the West Norfolk Bridge for roadway maintenance, Monday, April 11, through Friday, April 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 164 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures on the Western Freeway for snow plow pavement marker inspection and repair, Wednesday, April 14, through Friday, April 15, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. and Friday, April 15, from 9 a.m. to noon.

I-264 West - Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at the Downtown Tunnel exit portal for overhead sign maintenance, Tuesday, April 12, from 9p.m. to Wednesday, April 13, at 3 a.m.

I-264 West– Motorists should expect multiple lane closures from Des Moines Avenue (Exit 6) to Greenwood Drive (Exit 2) for overhead sign maintenance, Sunday, April 10, and Monday, April 11, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures from Effingham Street (Exit 7) to Portsmouth Boulevard (Exit 4) for overhead sign repairs, Monday, April 11, and Tuesday, April 12, from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m.

I-264 East/West– Motorists should expect multiple lane closures from Des Moines Avenue (Exit 6) to Portsmouth Boulevard (Exit 4) for overhead sign maintenance, Tuesday, April 12, through Wednesday, April 13, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures from Frederick Boulevard (Exit 5) to Victory Boulevard (Exit 3) for overhead sign repairs, Wednesday, April 13, through Thursday, April 14, from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures from Portsmouth Boulevard (Exit 4) to Greenwood Drive (Exit 2) for overhead sign repairs, Thursday, April 14, and Friday, April 15, from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Route 58 East/West - Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from High Street to the Midtown Tunnel for snow plow pavement marker inspection and repair, Wednesday, April 14, through Friday, April 15, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

HIGH RISE BRIDGE
I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single mobile alternating lane closures at the High Rise Bridge for sweeping operations, Sunday, April 10, through Friday, April 15, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64 East – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures on the High Rise Bridge for bridge joint repairs, Sunday, April 10, through Friday, April 15, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

CHESAPEAKE

I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work.  Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue Sunday through Thursday until the end of August 2011.

Galberry Road Intersection Improvement - Route 13 South Military Highway – Motorists should expect lane closures at Cavalier Boulevard and Executive Drive on South Military Highway for intersection improvements to Galberry Road. The improvement project includes drainage system upgrades and the installation of left turn lane.  Crews will close the center lanes on South Military Highway at the Galberry Road intersection through the completion of the project in May, 2011.

Motorists are advised to drive cautiously in the work zone. Crews will be on the roadway Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Fentress Airfield Road - Fentress Airfield Road will remain closed between Mount Pleasant Road and Blackwater Road for intersection improvements until the of April.  

During the road closure motorists will use the following detour, which is approximately 15 miles:

From North Landing Road motorists will turn right on Mount Pleasant Road, left on Centerville Turnpike and left on Land of Promise Road.

From Blackwater Road, motorists will turn left on Fentress Airfield Road, right on Land of Promise Road, right on Centerville Turnpike, right on Mount Pleasant Road and right on North Landing Road.

Mount Pleasant Road – Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures on Mount Pleasant Road at Fall Ridge Lane for asphalt paving operations and storm pipe installation, Monday, April 11, through Friday, April 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Rotunda Bridge to the Battlefield Interchange for shoulder restoration and guardrail repair, Sunday, April 10, through Friday, April 158, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

I-664 North – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Pughsville Road for overhead sign maintenance, Thursday, April 14, from 9 p.m. to Friday, April 15, at 3 a.m.

GILMERTON BRIDGE

Route 13 East/West – Motorists should expect daytime and nighttime closures on South Military Highway between Bainbridge Boulevard and Shell Road. Closures will include flagging operations in the project work zone, stopping traffic in both directions for up to 10 minutes. Crews will be replacing delineators and restriping the roadway. Motorists are asked to use extreme caution in the work zone.

CHESAPEAKE/SUFFOLK

I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures from Bowers Hill to the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel for concrete patching operations, Sunday, April 10, through Thursday, April 14, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

VIRGINIA BEACH/NORFOLK/PORTSMOUTH

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect single mobile lane closures from Birdneck Road in Virginia Beach to Effingham Street in Portsmouth for mobile pothole repairs, Monday, April 11, through Friday, April 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

VIRGINIA BEACH

Witchduck Road North/South –Motorists should expect single median lane closures from Bonney Road to the I-264 Interchange on Witchduck Road and on Bonney Road for asphalt placement and manhole reconstruction, Monday, April 10, through Friday, April 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

GREENSVILLE COUNTY

Route 58 West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from Greensville/Southampton County line to the Brunswick County line for snowplow pavement marking inspection, maintenance and repair, Monday, April 11, through Wednesday, April 13, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY

Route 58 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from the Suffolk city line west to Route 741 east and from Route 741 west to the Suffolk city line east, for pavement marking operations, Monday, April 11, through Thursday, April 14, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday, April 15, from 7 a.m. to noon.

Route 58 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from the Suffolk city line to the Greensville County line for snowplow pavement marker inspection and repair, Monday, April 11, through Wednesday, April 13, from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Route 58 West – Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures from Route 659 to Route 58 Business for paving operations, Monday, April 11, through Friday, April 15, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
