Suspected Tornado Touches Down In JCC; 10-15 Houses Damaged

At least one person has been injured after a suspected tornado touched down in James City County tonight.

According to James City Fire Department spokesman Bob Ryalls, the Grove and Kingsmill area of James City County near Pocahontas Trail from Kingsmill to the Newport News city line was hit by a suspected tornado just before 7 p.m.

James City County fire and emergency management officials are assessing damage and, as of 9 p.m. Saturday, know of 10-15 homes damaged by the storm. One resident was transported by ambulance ot Sentara Regional Hospital for injuries apparently sustained in the storm.

James City County Fire Station #2 on Pocahontas Trail is currently being used as shelter for some residents. The local chapter of the American Red Cross is on the scene to help displaced residents.

Power is out in many parts of the county. All area residents are urged to stay off the roads.
