Page Middle Students to Double Up at Peasley

All Gloucester County elementary and high school students and staff reported to their respective schools today, but the county's middle schools remain closed due to extensive damage at one during Saturday's tornado touchdown.

Both Page and Peasley Middle Schools will remain closed Tuesday but will be back in session on Wednesday. All Page students will report to Peasley. Page Middle suffered a direct hit from tornados that swept across Gloucester Saturday evening.

The Gloucester County School Board decided at a special meeting Monday that Page Middle students would attend Peasley Middle for the remainder of the 2010-11 school year. Students will use the split schedule as follows:

Peasley students will attend school from 7:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.;
Page students will attend from 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

According to a statement from the superintendent's office, school officials believe this plan will allow the middle school educational program to continue as soon as possible with the least amount of disruption.

Peasley students who ride the bus will meet their bus 30 minutes earlier than their usual time. Page students will be contacted by their individual bus drivers with their designated pick-up times. If parents of Page students have not heard from their bus driver by 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, please call the Transportation Department at 804-693-2127.

Also, the county school division's AlertNow communication system and other media avenues will be used to notify parents of this and all pertinent information.

In addition, the school board has approved two make-up days: Monday, May 2 and Monday, May 16.
