JCC Supes Set To Choose Redistricting Plan, Adopt Budget

The Board of Supervisors is set to vote on the proposed county redistricting plan Tuesday, as well as the new 2012 budget.

After discussing several proposed redistricting options, the citizen redistricting committee selected on option to send forward for recommendation to the Board, which is slated to decide on a map Tuesday evening. The recommended map cuts Democratic Supervisors from their districts. The Board also has access to the various other maps which were submitted for review. Read the most recent story on the county’s redistricting here.

On the agenda is a new redistricting option which reflects a slight change. Based on the committee's chosen map, the chage adds Williamsburg West and Windsor Forest from Jamestown to Powhatan, and moves Scott's Pond and Ewell Hall from Powhatan to Jamestown.

The Board will also consider the new County Administrator’s proposed budget with a few slight changes, most notably the addition of funds to the Historic Triangle Senior Center which had been recommended for a $20,000 cut. Read a previous story on the budget here and on the Senior Center cut here.

At its work session earlier in the evening Tuesday, the Board will get an update on the ordinance update process from staff.

The Board will hold its work session Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the board room in Building F of the county government complex on Mounts Bay Road, and they’ll hold their regular meeting in the same building at 7 p.m. View both agendas on the county website.

This is likely a done deal already. I'm sure there were some backroom shenanigans going on as well. Why else would Fuentes propose a new map well past the deadline? Why else would he call it a 'modification' and not a new map?

Anyone who isn't fed up with the entire redistricting process hasn't been paying attention. It was designed entirely as a political move to disrupt democratic office holders in every way possible, while preserving republican officeholders.

No consideration whatsoever was made for the actual voters and citizens of the county.

The Fuentes suggestion at least makes a 100% partisan republican plan about 5% less partisan.

If Mr. Fuentes is unhappy with his new district, he can do what some families did when they weren't happy with his school redistricting plan. Move.

What goes around comes around. Fuentes is not entitled to a perpetual seat on the school board. Let him run in his new district, and not try to finagle the maps to suit his needs.

Oh, and by the way, he submitted his new map after the deadline.
