Suspicious Package Didn't Pose Danger

Williamsburg police say a package found in a city motel Wednesday afternoon was suspicious but likely not related to criminal activity.

Police were called to the Motel 6 at 824 Capitol Landing Road around 2:45 p.m. after a maintenance crew discovered a suspicious package in an unrented, unoccupied motel room there. The package contained individually packaged wadding, black powder and ball ammunition. The package wasn't hidden, but in plain sight.

City police Major Greg Riley said none of the items in the package is illegal to possess.

City police were assisted by the Williamsburg Fire Department, Virginia State Police and Newport News Fire Marshal.
