Free Royal Wedding Viewing Party Friday

British-born local Steve Rose is dusting off his Union Jack top hat to celebrate the royal nuptials Friday morning, and he’s invited the whole town to celebrate with him.

Rose owns Williamsburg Event Rentals and knows something about throwing a party. The wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton was a great excuse to celebrate his pride in his homeland and have a good time, to boot. He’s booked Legacy Hall in New Town and will be showing the wedding live on the big screen Friday for free to anyone who’d care to stop by.

“The alternative is just sitting at home watching it by myself, which isn’t any fun,” says Rose.

The event will begin at 5:30 a.m., with free scones and tea for anyone willing to get out of bed so early on a Friday.

Royal dress is encouraged. Rose will be sporting his black top hat emblazoned with the Union Jack and his Union Jack shorts, along with his tux jacket to keep things spiffy.

He has no idea how many people will show up, but he’ll at least have a good seat for the festivities.

The ceremony starts at 6 a.m. and the public is welcome to come on the way to work, with a wrap-up expected by 9 a.m.

Being raised in Canada made Kate and Will's wedding especially poignant for me, today.
If I'd known about Mr. Rose's party in time, I would have worn my special hat for weddings and a suitable gown. Scones and tea would have been perfect. (Sigh!)

Thank you Steve for hosting such a wonderful event. Everything was just beautiful and festive. Watching the wedding live on a larger than life screen is something I will never forget. :-)

I wish I would have known about this earlier, but the wedding was a beautiful event. Although this was a British event their story is international. But it does make myself proud of my English heritage.
