Tristan, the first Clydesdale colt born at Busch Gardens, died Friday night due to a highly resistant bacterial infection.

The colt, born on April 5, had been responding well to treatment for several equine-related ailments at an off-site veterinarian facility. By late afternoon, his condition deteriorated and he died at 8:30 p.m.

“Tristan was under veterinarian care from the the time he was born. From the moment we thought there was an issue with his health, we transported him to an off-site veterinarian facility that was prepared to deal with any health issues. His death is unfortunate, and he will be missed,” said Jay Tacey, Busch Gardens manager of zoological operations.

We too saw him less than a day old taking his first steps. I'm heart broken and won't be able to tell the children - they will be too upset.

My kids and I got to see this little colt at the park when he was just 24 hours old. What a shame.
