Traffic Shifts Monday on Ft. Eustis Blvd

As contractor crews for the Virginia Department of Transportation continue work to widen Fort Eustis Boulevard in Newport News and York County, motorists should prepare for a new traffic pattern beginning Monday, May 2, after morning rush hour. State police will be on scene during the shift.

This traffic shift will move motorists off of the old westbound road, onto newly constructed westbound lanes. Eastbound traffic will continue to utilize the current eastbound lane until further notice. This initial traffic shift will enable crews to perform work in the medians as they construct turn lanes at Clubhouse Way and Woodside Lane. This traffic pattern will remain in place with minor adjustments until the turn lanes are constructed.

In 2009, work started on the Fort Eustis Boulevard Widening Project between Jefferson Avenue (Route 143) in Newport News and George Washington Memorial Highway (Route 17) in York County. The project will widen the existing two-lane road to four lanes to include turn lanes, a raised median and modified signals.

Currently, contractor crews have installed sewer and storm drain pipes and sound barrier walls. Project completion is scheduled for April 2012.
