VDOT Lane Closure Forecast: May 1-7

In an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads. These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events. Other closures may occur that do not appear on this report.

YORK COUNTY/HAMPTON
I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect multiple mobile lane closures between Route 143 (Exit 244) and Armistead/LaSalle (Exit 265) for overhead sign structure safety inspections, Sunday, May 1, through Friday, May 6, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

HAMPTON/NEWPORT NEWS
I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect lane closures from Powhatan Parkway (Exit 2) to Warwick Boulevard (Exit 5) for overhead sign structure inspections, Tuesday, May 3, through Friday, May 6, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64 East/West - Motorists should expect multiple lane closures from Mercury Boulevard to the I-664 Interchange for overhead sign structure inspections, Monday, May 2, through Tuesday, May 3, from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m.

HAMPTON/NORFOLK
I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures from Mallory Street in Hampton (Exit 268) and the I-264 Interchange (Exit 284) in Norfolk for pavement repairs, Monday, May 2, through Friday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

NEWPORT NEWS
Route 60 East/West - Motorists should expect alternating lane closures at the 34th Street Overpass for bridge safety inspection, Monday, May 2, through Friday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 60 East/West - Motorists should expect alternating lane closures at the 23rd and 25th Street Overpass for bridge safety inspection, Monday, May 2, through Friday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-664 North/South –Motorists should expect alternating lane closures at the 34th Street bridge (Exit 5) for bridge safety inspection, Monday, May 2, through Friday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-664 North/South –Motorists should expect alternating lane closures at the 23rd and 25th Street bridge (Exit 6) for bridge safety inspection, Monday, May 2, through Friday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-64 East - Motorists should expect mobile lane closures at the Jefferson Avenue/Route 143 (Exit 247) on ramp for pavement marking, Monday, May 2, through Thursday, May 5, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-664 South – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Roanoke Avenue for overhead sign maintenance, Wednesday, May 4, at 9 p.m. through Thursday, May 5, at 3 a.m.

MONITOR-MERRIMAC MEMORIAL BRIDGE-TUNNEL
I-664 North/South - Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures for tunnel maintenance operations, Sunday, May 1, through Friday, May 6, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL
I-64 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures for lighting maintenance operations, Sunday, May 1, through Wednesday, May 4, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

I-64 East – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures for sweeping operations, Sunday, May 1, and Monday, May 2, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

I-64 East – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures for sweeping operations, Sunday, May 1, and Monday, May 2, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

I-64 East/West - Motorists should expect alternating lane closures for tank inspections, Sunday, May 1, and Friday, May 6, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

DOWNTOWN TUNNEL
I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for sweeping operations, Monday, May 2, and Tuesday, May 3 and Thursday, May 5, and Friday, May 6, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for handrail repairs, Sunday, May 1, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

NORFOLK
Hampton Boulevard Grading Project
Hampton Boulevard traffic continues to be temporarily detoured between Mapleshade Avenue and B Avenue. The six-lane detour will remain in place until the underpass is constructed. Project completion is scheduled for winter 2013.

Northampton Boulevard South – Motorists should expect single mobile lane closures on Northampton Boulevard at the USAA Drive I-64 eastbound on-ramp for overhead sign repairs, Tuesday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to noon.

I-64 West– Motorists should expect alternating lane closures at Norview Avenue for overhead sign panel and structure removal, Sunday, May 1, through Thursday, May 5, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64 West - Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures at the I-264 Interchange (Exit 284) for overhead sign removal, Sunday, May 1, through Thursday, May 5, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64 West - Motorists should expect alternating lane closures at Norview Avenue for overhead sign and structure removal, Sunday, May 1, through Thursday, May 5, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 West - Motorists should expect alternating lane closures at the I-64 Interchange for overhead sign and structure removal, Sunday, May 1, through Thursday, May 5, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Norview Avenue South - Motorists should expect lane closures from south of the I-664 off-ramp to Norview Avenue, southbound, ending on Humboldt Street, for equipment staging for upcoming utility relocation, Monday, May 2, through Friday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-64 East - Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from Little Creek Road (Exit 276) to 4th View (Exit 273) for bridge joint repairs, Sunday, May 1, through Friday, May 6, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

I-64 East - Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures at the I-264 Interchange (Exit 284) and Northampton Boulevard (Exit 282) for pavement marking operations, Tuesday, May 2, through Thursday, May 5, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64 East – Motorists should expect single mobile lane closures from Military Highway (Exit281) to Little Creek Road (Exit 276) for drain cleaning, Monday, May 2, through Friday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-64 West - Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures between Granby Street (Exit 276) to Bayview Avenue (Exit 274) for bridge joint repairs, Sunday, May 1, through Friday, May 6, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

I-64 East/West - Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures at the I-64/I-264 Interchange for bridge safety inspection, Monday, May 2, through Friday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 East - Motorists should expect single lane closures at Broad Creek Bridge for overhead sign maintenance, Tuesday, May 3, at 9 p.m. through Wednesday, May 4, at 3 a.m.

I-64 West - Motorists should expect mobile lane closures between Military Highway (Exit 281) and Northampton Boulevard (Exit 282) for bridge joint repair, Sunday, May 1, through Friday, May 6, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

I-264 East/West - Motorists should expect single lane closures at the I-64 Interchange Overpass (Exit 14) for overhead sign removal, Sunday, May 1, through Thursday, May 5, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-264 West - Motorists should expect multiple lane closures between the Broad Creek Bridge and Ballentine Boulevard (Exit 12) for concrete pavement repair, Sunday, May 1, through Friday, May 6, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

I-564 North/South - Motorists should expect alternating lane closures on I-564 north and southbound for roadway sweeping operations, Sunday, May 1, through Friday, May 6, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

NORFOLK/VIRGINIA BEACH
I-264 East - Motorists should expect lane closures from Newtown Road (Exit 16) and Witchduck Road (Exit 16) for bridge joint repairs, Sunday, May 1, through Friday, May 6, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

I-64 East - Motorists should expect multiple mobile lane closures between I-64 Interchange (Exit 283) and Northampton Boulevard (Exit 282), for bridge joint repair, Sunday, May 1, through Friday, May 6, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

MIDTOWN TUNNEL
Route 58 West – Motorists should expect stationary lane closures for both right and left lanes for light repairs, Sunday, May 1, through Wednesday, May 4, from9:30 p.m. to 5  a.m.

PORTSMOUTH/NORFOLK/VIRGINIA BEACH
I-264 East/West - Motorists should expect alternating mobile lane closures from Effingham Street in Portsmouth (Exit 7) to Parks Avenue in Virginia Beach for pavement repairs, Monday, May 2, through Friday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

CHESAPEAKE
I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work.  Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt. These paving operations will continue Sunday through Thursday until the end of August 2011.

Galberry Road Intersection Improvement - Route 13 South Military Highway – Motorists should expect lane closures at Cavalier Boulevard and Executive Drive on South Military Highway for intersection improvements to Galberry Road. The improvement project includes drainage system upgrades and the installation of left turn lane.  Crews will close the center lanes on South Military Highway at the Galberry Road intersection through the completion of the project in May, 2011.

Motorists are advised to drive cautiously in the work zone. Crews will be on the roadway Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Mount Pleasant Road – Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures on Mount Pleasant Road at Fall Ridge Lane and for paving and roadway widening, Monday, May 2, through Friday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Motorists should also expect flagging operations on Fentress Airfield Road during these construction activities.

I-64 West – Motorists should expect the I-64 westbound ramp to Battlefield Boulevard South to be closed for ramp and city street paving, Sunday, May 1, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64 East– Motorists should expect single lane closures at the Greenbrier Parkway Overpass for pavement marking, Monday, May 2, through Thursday, May 5, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64 East– Motorists should expect single lane closures at the Greenbrier Parkway (Exit 289) for pavement marking, Monday, May 2, through Thursday, May 5, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64 East– Motorists should expect alternating lane closures at the I-464 Interchange (Exit 291) for overhead sign structure removal, Sunday, May 1, through Thursday, May 5, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-464 North/South - Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the I-64 Interchange to Main Street for roadway sweeping, Monday, May 2, through Friday, May 6, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

GILMERTON BRIDGE
Route 13 East/West – Motorists should expect daytime and nighttime closures on South Military Highway between Bainbridge Boulevard and Shell Road. Closures will include flagging operations in the project work zone, stopping traffic in both directions for up to 10 minutes. Crews will be replacing delineators and restriping the roadway. Motorists are asked to use extreme caution in the work zone.

CHESAPEAKE/SUFFOLK
I-664 North – Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures from Pughsville Road to College Drive for slab jacking, Sunday, May 1, through Thursday, May 5, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Motorists should also expect lane closures at the Dock Landing northbound on ramp and the College Drive northbound off-ramp for slab jacking, Sunday, May 1, through Thursday, May 5, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The northbound right lane between Dock Landing Road and Pughsville Road will be closed for crack sealing, Sunday, May 1, through Thursday, May 5, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

VIRGINIA BEACH
I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the I-64 Interchange (Exit 14) to Parks Avenue for drain cleaning operations Monday, May 2, through Friday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from Witchduck Road (Exit 16) to Independence Boulevard (Exit 17) for bridge joint repairs, Sunday, May 1, through Friday, May 6, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from Lynnhaven Parkway (Exit 19) to Laskin Road (Exit 20) for bridge joint repairs, Sunday, May 1, through Friday, May 6, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from First Colonial Road (Exit 21) to Laskin Road (Exit 20) for bridge joint repairs, Sunday, May 1, through Friday, May 6, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect lane closures at the Mount Trashmore for overhead sign repairs, Thursday, May 5, at 9 p.m. to Friday, May 5, at 3 a.m.
