Ferry Delays In Store through Mid-May

Motorists who rely on the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry should be aware that their commute is likely to take a good bit longer.

The Pocahontas was taken out of service Thursday morning for emergency maintenance regarding a mechanical issue; she's expected to be out of commission unbtil mid-May. That means capacity is about 50 cars per hour less than normal.

Motorists should expect delays and may want to consider using the I-664 Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel, the James River Bridge (Route 17), or the Benjamin Harrison Memorial Bridge (Route 106/156).

Motorists are encouraged to call the ferry hotline, which is available 24/7, at 1-800-VAFERRY. Travelers looking for ferry updates may also visit the 511 Virginia website, call 511 or listen to Highway Advisory Radio 610 AM or call the Traffic Information Line at 757-361-3016 for current traffic and travel information.
