Bank Robbery Suspect Charged in Hotel Holdups

A York County man who faces bank robbery charges in Williamsburg has been arrested for a series of armed robberies in York.

Victor Jerrell Smith, 39, whose last known address is in the 100 block of Rivermeade Court, was arrested and charged last Wednesday, a day after Gloucester deputies encountered Smith and three others acting suspiciously near a bank. The group of three adults and one juvenile was subsequently charged with committing two armed robberies at city banks.

York investigators say Smith is believed to have been involved in several armed robberies at hotels in the upper part of the county.

He faces the following charges: conspiracy to commit robbery for a robbery that occurred Jan. 21 at the TraveLodge in the 100 block of Bypass Road; conspiracy to commit robbery that stems from a robbery that occurred Feb. 6 at the Days Inn located in the 700 block of Lightfoot Road; and robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and conspiracy to commit robbery for a robbery at the Days Inn located in the 200 block of Water Country Parkway on Feb. 17.

At least one more suspect is being sought in the TraveLodge and Lightfoot Days Inn armed robberies, as surveillance cameras captured two suspects as the crime happened.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
