WJCC Appoints Assistant Principals for Montague, Blayton

Two veteran teachers have been appointed as assistant principals at D.J. Montague and J. Blaine Blayton elementary schools, effective July 1.

Robin Britt Ford, Williamsburg-James City County’s current Elementary School Teacher of the Year, will become assistant principal at D.J. Montague next fall. Ford has more than 20 years of instructional experience as a teacher and reading specialist.

Scott Holland, a fourth grade teacher at Rawls Byrd Elementary, will become assistant principal at J. Blaine Blayton Elementary. He has 10 years of experience in elementary education.

“Robin and Scott are well known to WJCC staff and the families of the schools they have served as outstanding instructors and leaders of elementary school students,” said Steven Constantino, superintendent of WJCC schools.

Ford began her career in 1989 at Rappahannock Elementary School in Middlesex County. She joined WJCC in 1993 as a third grade teacher at Norge Elementary School. She joined the staff of Stonehouse Elementary in 2003, where she has served as a third grade teacher and reading specialist. She is currently serving as summer school principal for J. Blaine Blayton.

As a reading specialist, Ford monitored the development of nearly 700 students, and led planning and assessment conferences with teachers. She also planned lessons for a six-week after-school program for students in grades 3-5 called “Rock the Test.”

She earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from William and Mary in 1989, later earning two master’s degrees from the college – one in educational administration and one in reading, language and literacy.

Holland attended WJCC schools and graduated from Lafayette High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in early childhood psychology from Christopher Newport University and a master’s degree in elementary reading and literacy from Walden University. He also has earned a K-12 administration and supervision endorsement from William and Mary.

He joined WJCC in 2002 as a fifth grade teacher at Rawls Byrd Elementary. Since then, he has served as fifth grade team leader, the learning leader at summer school, fourth grade team leader and co-testing coordinator. In the summers of 2008-09, he served as administrative intern for Rawls Byrd’s principal. This summer, he is serving as summer school principal at Matoaka Elementary School.
