Williamsburg, Yorktown Fourth Fireworks Won't Be Rescheduled

Thunderstorms and rain showers put a damper on fireworks displays across the region, sending revelers home early without the customary Fourth of July explosions.

Colonial Williamsburg is not rescheduling its fireworks, but will divide the inventory intended for the Fourth of July between the following eight weeks of its Salute to the Nation program, which starts this Friday. The program, which begins at 9 p.m. in front of the Governor’s Palace every Friday through Aug. 26, ends with a small fireworks finale. CW spokesman Jim Bradley said the finale will just be a little bit bigger in the coming weeks, due to the extra explosives left over from the Fourth.

York County has no plans to reschedule its fireworks display. Public Information Officer Christie Phillips said the fireworks remain the property of the company contracted by the county, and the county paid half of the contracted price for the event.

Busch Gardens rescheduled its fireworks display for Tuesday (last night) at 9:30 p.m. Newport News also pushed its display to Tuesday night, with the launch from Victory Landing Park at 23rd Street and West Avenue in the city's downtown.

James Citee is where this country started (well unless it was St. Augustine FL)-- but in any event, there are never fireworks displays there (maybe once every 400 years).

If the economy were better I'm sure the area would have the fireworks display at another time. I don't think anyone realizes how expensive these displays are. Save the money and put on a better disply next year.

I think my2sense has it backwards, Gloucester is where this country started, and where the war was fought. They put on and awesome event of beer guzzling and mudding.

I think aj had it backwards. Yorktown is "where this country started," not CW, and where the war was fought. Yorktown, as usual, put on an awesome event for Independence Day! But neither CW nor Yorktown could have gone on with the fireworks because of the weather.

This is the most dissatisfying thing i have heard in a long time! Cw is where this country started an should have fireworks to honor them men who gave their lives for the GREAT USA to not do it is saying that it's not about them an more about the people who spend money here from out of time
