Recent Warhill Grad Dies in I-64 Crash

A 17-year-old James City County girl was killed Sunday in a single-car accident on Interstate 64.

Shantell D. Dobson, who lived in the Raintree Villas neighborhood, was driving a 1994 Acura Integra eastbound on I-64 at mile marker 233 just after 6 a.m. when she apparently lost control, overcorrected and ran off the road, striking a tree on the driver's side door. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dobson's passenger was transported to an area hospital with injuries. No further information was available.

Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Michelle Anaya said Dobson was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

According to a list provided last month by Williamsburg James City County Schools, Dobson was a 2011 graduate of Warhill High.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

How sad for her family! It seems that there have been so many fatalities on the road in recent months. I hope everyone will learn from these tragedies and take a little extra time to be cautious drivers.
