Surry Siren Part of Drill, Not Emergency

Residents in the vicinity of the Dominion Power Surry Power Plant may have heard an unscheduled emergency siren this morning. There is no emergency; it is just a test.

The siren was mistakenly activated during a power plant safety drill, according to press releases issued by James City and York counties as well as the City of Williamsburg.

Each jurisdiction has a map in their Surry Emergency Operation Plans. I think at one time the local libraries had copies of these plans. I know from time to time there were citizen informational programs planned to share information like this. Maybe these should be dusted off and shared with the public again. Hopefully there would be better citizen participation this time around.

For a "point of curiosity information"... could someone in the know, around our town, share with us where those sirens are GENERALLY located...pleas e? ONLY for curiosity of how our needed system works...that's all!
