Submit Questions for Tonight's York Chamber Candidate Forum

All candidates fighting Aug. 23 for the Republican nomination for the District 3 seat of the Senate, York County Commonwealth’s Attorney and York County Board of Supervisors will be on one stage tonight, answering questions from York County residents and business leaders.

The York County Chamber of Commerce (YCCC) will be holding its Second Annual Candidate Forum in the Kiva Auditorium at Grafton Middle School, giving audience members a chance to ask the 12 candidates questions. The forum begins at 6 p.m.; citizens are encouraged to arrive early, as last year’s forum drew a standing-only crowd. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Citizens are asked to submit questions today via email to Earl Joyner, earl@marinesurveying.com. (Clicking on the email address will open a new window to send an email.)

District 3 State Senate incumbent Tommy Norment and his challenger, Tea Party Republican Mark Frechette, will be participating in the event along with the current Board of Supervisors and their challengers. Board of Supervisor incumbents include Walter Zaremba from District 1, Sheila Noll from District 2, Don Wiggins from District 3 and George Hrichak from District 4. Tom Shepperd of District 5, who will run for re-election in the fall, is unchallenged in the primary. The challengers include Mitchel Thomas for District 1, Frank Barger for District 2, Bob D’Eramo for District 3 and Jim Haas for District 4.

York-Poquoson Commonwealth’s Attorney Eileen Addison and former prosecutor Ben Hahn will also attend.

After the candidates introduce themselves, they will answer questions submitted by the audience. The candidate’s challenger will have an opportunity to respond to the same question, according to the format. William “Chuck” Jarrett, president of the YCCC, and Earl Joyner, the group’s vice president, will moderate the event.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the event will end at 9:15 p.m. Anyone with questions regarding the event can email the YCCC at ycccadmin@yorkcountycc.org or call (757) 877-5920.
