CW Partners with Symphonia; Pops Concert is Sept. 30

The Williamsburg Symphonia will have a new partner in Colonial Williamsburg when it kicks off the 2011-12 season with the annual Music Under the Stars pops concert Sept. 30 at Merchants Square.

“Colonial Williamsburg is pleased to sponsor the Williamsburg Symphonia,” said president and CEO of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation Colin Campbell in a press release. “We are committed to expanding the vitality of the destination and the community by supporting quality cultural experiences such as those provided by the Symphonia which complement our educational mission.”

The Williamsburg Symphonia is in its 28th performance season. Its chamber orchestra is led by conductor and music director Janna Hymes, who is in her seventh season with the orchestra.

“The Williamsburg Symphonia is proud to partner with Colonial Williamsburg in bringing Maestro Janna Hymes’ classical and pops programming to the area,” said Harry Burton, executive director of the Williamsburg Symphonia.

The Music Under the Stars annual pops concert will kick off the 43rd annual An Occasion for the Arts, a two-day art and music show that begins Saturday, Oct. 1, on and around Merchants Square.

The concert brings Holly Hunt and the Limelight to perform jazzy tunes by a versatile group of musicians. Vocalist Steve Lippia will sing with the Symphonia in “Simply Sinatra,” blending classic songs with music from today.

A selection of fine box dinners provided by Aromas, Berret's, Blue Talon Bistro, Seasons and The Trellis will be available for $18. Click here to see each restaurant's selection. Wine is available by advance purchase or on the evening of the event.

This is great synergy. After returning from a summer in New England where many cultural organizations support each other, it is good to see that happening here.
